Trump won’t pursue charges against Clinton

President-elect Donald Trump won’t subject Hillary Clinton to a criminal inquiry — instead, he’ll help her heal, his spokeswoman said Tuesday.

“I think when the president-elect who’s also the head of your party … tells you before he’s even inaugurated he doesn’t wish to pursue these charges, it sends a very strong message, tone and content, to the members,” Kellyanne Conway told the hosts of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” who first reported that the president-elect would not pursue his campaign pledge to “lock up” Clinton, his Democratic opponent.

“Look, I think, he’s thinking of many different things as he prepares to become the president of the United States, and things that sound like the campaign are not among them,” Conway, who is now on the Trump transition team, said in her interview.

She continued: “I think Hillary Clinton still has to face the fact that a majority of Americans don’t find her to be honest or trustworthy, but if Donald Trump can help her heal, then perhaps that’s a good thing.”

At the second presidential debate in October, Trump sounded a much harsher tone.

“If I win, I am going to instruct my attorney general to get a special prosecutor to look into your situation because there has never been so many lies, so much deception,” he vowed.

Here’s a breakdown of the scandal that Hillary needs help healing from:

Not again! US Navy ‘stealth’ destroyer towed into port after another breakdown (VIDEO)

Edited time: 23 Nov, 2016 14:37

Built at a cost of more than $4 billion, the high-tech USS Zumwalt only made it to the Panama Canal while on its first journey to its home port of San Diego. A malfunction left the warship in need of tugboats so that it could reach the closest port, where it remains under maintenance.

Passing southbound through the Panama Canal on Monday evening, the USS Zumwalt crew discovered water seeping into two of the four bearings connecting the port and starboard Advanced Induction Motors, or AIMs, to the drive shafts, according to US Naval Institute News citing a defense official.

The AIMs are part of what makes the Zumwalt the most high-tech, and most expensive, destroyer in the US Navy’s history. They generate up to 78 megawatts, allowing the 610-foot, 15,000-ton ship’s propulsion to rely entirely on electrical power.

However, Zumwalt was at the mercy of tugboats Monday night. They towed the ship to a former US naval station in Panama, where it is still being worked on. The problem may not be fixed for another 10 days, a defense official told USNI.

The unusually angular warship, shaped to evade radar detection, endured “minor cosmetic damage” when it collided with canal walls, the Portland Press Herald reported. It was on its way to San Diego, where it would join the US 3rd Fleet and be ready for action in 2018 after some weapons systems are installed.

Third Fleet spokesman, Commander Ryan Perry, issued a statement late Monday, Defense News reported.

“Vice Adm. Nora Tyson, commander, US Third Fleet, has directed USS Zumwalt (DDG 1000) to remain at ex-Naval Station Rodman in Panama to address engineering issues that occurred while transiting the Panama Canal,” the statement read. “The timeline for repairs is being determined now, in direct coordination with Naval Sea Systems and Naval Surface Forces. The schedule for the ship will remain flexible to enable testing and evaluation in order to ensure the ship's safe transit to her new homeport in San Diego.”View image on Twitter

This is the second major break down for the Zumwalt. In late September, just two weeks after leaving Bath, Maine, where it was constructed, it sprung a leak in its auxiliary motor drive oil system, Popular Mechanics reported.

Two other “stealth” destroyer ships in Zumwalt’s class are currently under construction.

12 market-goers killed by Saudi-led airstrike in Yemen – local residents

Twelve civilians were killed after they were hit by a Saudi-led airstrike while riding in a pick-up truck in northwest Yemen, according to residents cited by Reuters.

The passengers were reportedly heading to a local market in the Hiran area of northwest Hajja province on Wednesday when they were struck. The area is controlled by the Houthi movement.

A spokesman for the Saudi-led coalition declined to respond to Reuters' request for comment. In the past, the coalition has maintained that it does not target civilians, despite numerous accusations and reports to the contrary.

The new deaths come less than two months after 135 civilians were killed by an alleged Saudi-led airstrike at a wedding in the southwestern village of Al-Wahijah, in an attack that the Saudi-led coalition denied.

In March, an apparent airstrike by the coalition hit a market in Yemen's Hajja province, killing 41 civilians and injuring 75 others.

A report released by the Yemen Data Project in September concluded that one-third of Saudi strikes hit hospitals, schools, and other civilian targets across the country. However, Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir told the Guardian at the time that those figures were “vastly exaggerated,” and blamed Houthi fighters for turning civilian buildings into “command control centers” and “weapons depots.”

The UN also announced in August that airstrikes carried out by the Saudi-led coalition are responsible for the majority of civilians killed in the country's conflict, and called for an international to investigation to take place.

Tensions in Yemen escalated when Shia President Ali Abdullah Saleh was deposed in 2012 and his Houthi supporters – aided by Iran – eventually seized the capital city, Sanaa, in 2014 before advancing to the south, seizing large swaths of the country and sending new President Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi into exile in Saudi Arabia.

In March 2015, the Saudi-led coalition responded with airstrikes in order to stop Houthi advances and reinstate Hadi to power, and later launched a ground operation.

Up to 10,000 people have so far been killed since the fighting began, including 3,800 civilians, according to UN estimates.
