President Obama catches Netanyahu bribing republican congressmen to change their Iran votes

|

United States President Obama has long had a strained relationship with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, despite the two nations being historically close allies. Obama’s reasoning has been straightforward: Netanyahu is a corrupt warmonger has intentionally made his region unstable for his own political gain. Republicans have fired back by accusing Obama of simply being anti-Israel. But wiretaps now show that at least some republicans in congress had an entirely different reason for siding with Netanyahu: he was bribing them to change their votes on key issues.

In an explosive revelation, wiretaps uncovered by the Wall Street Journal reveal that Benjamin Netanyahu reached out to republican congressmen who had been considering voting in favor of the Iran peace deal, asking what they wanted in return for voting against the deal. In the end, not a single republican voted for the deal, meaning that Netanyahu’s bribes succeeded in swaying the ones who had been on the fence. That means that not only is Netanyahu actively working to undermine the sanctity of the United States government, the republican congressmen involved may have committed treason under the Espionage Act.

While it’s not uncommon for members of congress to offer each other political favors in exchange for votes on various bills, it’s an entirely different legal matter when those offers come from a foreign head of state. Not only were they caught accepting favors from Netanyahu in exchange for votes on the Iran deal, they also received confidential details of the Iran negotiations directly from Netanyahu himself. Republicans have long criticized the Obama administration for its wiretapping of Netanyahu, but now we know why: they didn’t want the details of their own wrongdoing to be discovered in the process. The Wall Street Journal has more on the story.

Media Coverage of Oregon Standoff Sparks
Outrage and Ridicule Online

Over the weekend, members of a right-wing (and entirely white) militia seized a federal building while threatening to kill any federal agents who tried to remove them -- yet the response from law enforcement and the media seemingly downplayed the situation.

The quiet response was in glaring contrast from the extreme reactions from both militarized police and the media that we have seen with the peaceful, unarmed, protests against police brutality in places such as Ferguson and Baltimore.

One of the leaders of this takeover is Ammon Bundy, the son of Cliven Bundy who infamously won a standoff against the feds over his right to let his cattle graze on federally protected land that homes an endangered species of tortoise last year.

The militiamen are protesting the prosecution of Oregon ranchers Dwight Hammond Jr. and Steven Hammond, who are heading back to prison on Monday for an arson on federal land. The duo had previously served their sentence for the crime, but that state ruled that they were unlawfully sentenced below the mandatory minimum and must go back.

These armed protesters have openly stated that they will not rule out violence.

In response to these threats and the takeover, the media called the militia “peaceful protesters” and police were not present at the property, even by Monday afternoon — days into the occupation.

Meanwhile, in Baltimore last year, the National Guard was brought in, a curfew was put into place, and chemical weapons were used on peaceful demonstrators after police “heard a rumor that someone might try to kill a cop.”

Social media was quick to call out the hypocrisy, noting that had these men been Muslim or black, they would already be surrounded by SWAT — or dead.

Many others noted the case of Tamir Rice, and how he was labeled a “thug” for holding a toy, while these men who are actually armed with rifles and threatening to use them against federal agents are called “patriots.”

Interestingly, much of those excitedly supporting the militia appear to be from the same crowd who have claimed Black Lives Matter is a “terrorist group” that want to kill police. They seem to forget that Jerad Miller and Amanda Miller left the showdown at the Bundy ranch last year to go on and murder two Las Vegas police officers before killing themselves.

Twitter responded to absurdity of it all by mocking the group and referring to them as: “Y’all Qaeda,” “Yeehawd,” “Vanilla ISIS,” “Yokel Haram,” “Cow Tipping Terrorists,” “FailQueda,” “Infantada,” “WhiteSIS,” and “Saturday Night Treason” — all of which had their own hashtags.

Stop Mobilize and listen back w/ a brand new militia BLM grab the land so tightly Illegally graze my cattle nightly

18,600,000 Vacant Homes In The United States – Enough For Every Homeless Person To Have Six!

Posted ago by

Source: www.trueactivist.com | Original Post Date: January 3, 2012 –

The National Economic and Social Rights Initiative along with Amnesty International are asking the U.S. to step up its efforts to address the foreclosure crisis, including by giving serious consideration to the growing call for a foreclosure moratorium and other forms of relief for those at risk, and establishing a housing finance system that fulfills human rights obligations.

New government census reports have revealed disturbing information that details the cold, hard numbers of Americans who have been deeply affected by the state of our economy, and bank foreclosure practices:

In the last few days, the U.S. government census figures have revealed that 1 in 2 Americans have fallen into poverty or are struggling to live on low incomes. And we know that the financial hardships faced by our neighbors, colleagues, and others in our communities will be all the more acutely felt over the holiday season.

Along with poverty and low incomes, the foreclosure rate has created its own crisis situation as the number of families removed from their homes has skyrocketed.

Since 2007, banks have foreclosed around eight million homes. It is estimated that another eight to ten million homes will be foreclosed before the financial crisis is over. This approach to resolving one part of the financial crisis means many, many families are living without adequate and secure housing. In addition, approximately 3.5 million people in the U.S. are homeless, many of them veterans. It is worth noting that, at the same time, there are 18.5 million vacant homes in the country.

The stark realities that persist mean that millions of families will be facing the holidays in temporary homes, or homes under threat, and far too many children will be wishing for an end to the uncertainty and distress their family is facing rather than an Xbox or Barbie doll.

Housing is a basic human need and a fundamental human right. Yet every day in the United States, banks are foreclosing on more than 10,000 mortgages and ordering evictions of individuals and families residing in foreclosed homes. The U.S. government’s steps to address the foreclosure crisis to date have been partial at best.

The depth and severity of the foreclosure crisis is a clear illustration of the urgent need for the U.S. government to put in place a system that respects, protects and fulfills human rights, including the right to housing. This includes implementing real protections to ensure that other actors, such as financial institutions, do not undermine or abuse human rights.

There is a link available at the Amnesty International website for anyone who is interested and would like to join the call on the Obama administration and Congress to urgently step up efforts to address the foreclosure crisis, including by seriously considering the growing call for a foreclosure moratorium and other forms of relief, and establishing a housing finance system that fulfills human rights obligations.

North Korea announces it conducted nuclear test

North Korea says it has successfully carried out a hydrogen bomb test, which if confirmed, will be a first for the reclusive regime and a significant advancement for its military ambitions.

A hydrogen bomb is more powerful than plutonium weapons, which is what North Korea used in its three previous underground nuclear tests.

"If there's no invasion on our sovereignty we will not use nuclear weapon," the North Korean state news agency said. "This H-bomb test brings us to a higher level of nuclear power."

A senior U.S. administration told CNN it could take days to obtain the scientific data to determine whether this was a successful test.

The South Korean defense ministry said it too could not immediately confirm the test's success, but the country's foreign ministry hastily convened an emergency meeting. Officials in Japan were also holding discussions.

The test took place at 10 a.m. local time, the regime said in a televised statement.

The seismic event, which measured the event at a magnitude of 5.1, occurred 19 kilometers (12 miles) east-northeast of Sungjibaegam, the United States Geological Survey said.

    A big 'if'

In the past, North Korea has tested fission weapons, which break large atoms like plutonium, into smaller atoms, creating considerable energy.

Fusion weapons, such as hydrogen bombs, use fusion to combine small atoms -- such as hydrogen -- to create much larger amounts of energy.

Nuclear weapons based on fission typically have a yield of around 10 kilotons, while nuclear weapons employing fusion can have a yield measured in megatons.

A hydrogen bomb is hundreds of times more powerful than the atomic bomb that devastated Hiroshima in 1945.

The North Koreans have signaled for some time the test was a possibility, said Mike Chinoy, with the U.S.-China Institute at the University of Southern California.

"Kim Jong Un made public statement a few weeks ago saying that (the country was) developing a hydrogen bomb."

But, said Bruce Bennett, North Korea's claims ought to be taken with a grain of salt. Bennett is a senior defense analyst at the nonprofit, nonpartisan Rand Corp.

"North Korea appears to have had a difficult time mastering even the basics of a fission weapon," he said. "This suggests that unless North Korea has had help from outside experts, it is unlikely that it has really achieved a hydrogen/fusion bomb since its last nuclear test, just short of three years ago."

    Regional response

The development illustrates the continuing challenge North Korea poses to its neighbors and the world.

"We have consistently made clear that we will not accept it as a nuclear state," said a spokesman for the National Security Council. "We will continue to protect and defend our allies in the region, including the Republic of Korea, and will respond appropriately to any and all North Korean provocations."

The North Koreans have signaled for some time the test was a possibility, said Mike Chinoy, with the U.S.-China Institute at the University of Southern California.

"The fact that the test has taken place, assuming it was successful, complicates the situation in Northeast Asia," he said. "Beijing had been becoming more friendly."

Being more warm and cordial was hoped to restrain North Korea but now this places the Chinese authorities in a big dilemma.

South Korea has also said a fourth test would be a watershed moment that would warrant a response, Chinoy said.

There is currently no diplomacy from the U.S. to restrain the nuclear development, so this test "also puts the U.S. on the spot.

"Will any of their steps do anything to restrain North Korea? My guess is probably not."

Japan quickly issued a strong condemnation, saying the test was a "serious threat" to its security.

"It clearly violates the UNSC resolution and is a serious challenge to the nuclear non-proliferation efforts," said Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

A UN diplomat tells CNN there is expected to be closed-door session Security Council consultations Wednesday morning (ET).

    Heavily militarized country

North Korea's internationally isolated regime is a heavily militarized state with a huge standing army of 1.2 million active soldiers and 7.7 million reservists.

But its conventional weaponry is dated, with limited effectiveness, and it has looked to developing its nuclear capabilities to project power internationally.

The country declared it had nuclear weapons in 2003, and conducted nuclear tests in 2006, 2009 and 2013.

In May last year, it said it had the ability to miniaturize nuclear weapons, a development that would allow it to deploy nuclear weapons on missiles. A U.S. National Security Council spokesman responded at the time that the United States did not think the North Koreans had such a capability.

David Albright, a former U.N. weapons inspector, told CNN last year that Pyongyang could already have 10 to 15 atomic weapons, and that it could grow that amount by several weapons per year.

He said he believed Pyongyang had the capability to miniaturize a warhead for shorter missiles, but not yet for intercontinental ballistic missiles capable of reaching the United States.

Marine Arrested in Slaying of Student Shot While Designated-Driving on New Year's

A U.S. Marine has been identified as the man taken into custody today in Arizona in connection with the slaying of a 20-year-old University of North Texas student who was shot in the head while designated-driving early New Year's Day.

The Marine Corps identified him as Cpl. Eric Johnson of Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron-1. Johnson was stationed at the Marine Corps Air Station in Yuma, Arizona.

Johnson "was taken into custody at approximately 6:30 a.m. at the North Gate of the installation in fulfillment of a warrant issued in connection to an alleged shooting in Denton, Texas," the Marine Corps said. "MCAS Yuma Provost Marshall's Office and Naval Criminal Investigative Service assisted the US Marshal Service and the Yuma Police Department in the detainment of Johnson and remain in support of the US Marshal's ongoing investigation."

The Denton, Texas, Police Department said today that Johnson, 20, was found in Yuma, Arizona, and was served with an arrest warrant this morning.

Denton police said this afternoon that they are still in the early stages of the investigation.

The victim, Sara Mutschlechner, was the designated driver for her friends in Texas in the early morning of New Year's Day when men in a black SUV pulled up next to their car and exchanged words with them, Denton police officer Shane Kizer told ABC News this weekend. The exchange was "peaceful at first," but the suspects then "made some comments towards the girls, and it escalated from there," Kizer said.

Two or three rounds were fired at the young woman's car, and Mutschlechner lost control and crashed into an electrical pole in Denton, Kizer said.

Police were called to the scene just after 2 a.m. and responding officers found Mutschlechner lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to her head. She was taken to the hospital where she was on life support. She died the evening of Jan. 1, Kizer said.

Mutschlechner, of Martindale, Texas, was a junior at UNT. She described herself on herLinkedIn page as an "avid movie-goer" and majored in radio, television and film with a minor concentration in theater, according to a university spokeswoman.

She was also a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, according to its Facebook page.

Our thoughts are with the sisters, family and friends of Gamma Phi Chapter (University of North Texas) member Sara Mutschlechner, who passed away in a tragic accident this weekend.

“Each and every one of our lives at the Gamma Phi Chapter of ZTA has been touched by the spunky, selfless attitude of our beloved sister, Sara,” said chapter president Jordan Roberts. “She is by far one of the most spirited, honest and fun-loving people I ever had the privilege to know. “There are so many people that knew her, that she touched their lives,” said her father, Clay Mutschlechner. “She never met a stranger.”

“She was friends with everyone,” added her mother, Gloria Mutschlechner.
