More women and children freed in Nigeria from extremists

MAIDUGURI, Nigeria (AP) — A day after the Nigerian army celebrated the rescue of 200 girls and 93 women in the forest stronghold of Boko Haram, the army's spokesman said more women and children believed to have been abducted by the Islamic extremists were rescued as firefights broke out there.

Several lives were lost including that of a soldier and a woman during shootouts in nine separate extremist camps in the Sambisa Forest, according to a statement late Wednesday from Col. Sani Usman. He said eight women sustained gunshot wounds and four soldiers were seriously injured.

Some of the females who were freed earlier have been so transformed by their captivity that they opened fire on their rescuers, authorities have said. A veteran counselor said Wednesday they would need intensive psychological treatment.

The army spokesman said several Boko Haram field commanders and foot soldiers were killed and combat tanks and munitions of high caliber used by Boko Haram were recovered while others were destroyed.

"The troops have also rescued additional women and children," the statement said, without saying how many were rescued. "They have been evacuated to a safety zone for further processing."

The military was flying in medical and intelligence teams to evaluate the former captives, many of whom were severely traumatized, Usman said earlier.

It remained unclear if any of the schoolgirls kidnapped from the northeastern town of Chibok a year ago were to be among the 200 girls and 93 women whose rescue was announced on Tuesday.

The plight of the schoolgirls, who have become known as "the Chibok girls," aroused international outrage and a campaign for their release under the hashtag #BringBackOurGirls. Their kidnapping brought Boko Haram, whose nickname means "Western education is forbidden" in the local Hausa language, to the world's attention. Of the Chibok girls, 219 remain missing.

Nigerian military and counter-insurgency spokesmen have said they have information indicating at least some of the Chibok girls still are being held in the Sambisa Forest.A counselor who has treated other women freed from Boko Haram captivity said some had become indoctrinated into believing the group's Islamic extremist ideology, while others had established strong emotional attachments to militants they had been forced to marry.

Some of the about 90 women and girls freed by the army four months ago in Yobe state, for example, had upset their community on their return by maintaining that the militants were good people who had treated them well, said the counselor, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because he has been targeted by the militants in the past.

"The trauma suffered by the (abducted) women and girls is truly horrific," said Amnesty International's Africa director for research and advocacy, Netsanet Belay. "Some have been repeatedly raped, sold into sexual slavery or indoctrinated and even forced to fight for Boko Haram."

Amnesty International said earlier this month that at least 2,000 women and girls have been taken by Boko Haram since the start of 2014.

About 160 more hostages were freed from the militants' Sambisa Forest stronghold, making it 500 this week.

Saudi Arabia arrest 93 terror suspects, foils car bomb plot on US Embassy

Saudi Arabia announced the arrest of 93 suspected terrorists with ties to ISIS Tuesday, including two who were allegedly planning a car bomb attack on the U.S. Embassy in Riyadh.

Other potential targets for some of those arrested included residential compounds and prisons.

Authorities said that the potential suicide car bombing at the Embassy involved three individuals -- a Saudi national and two Syrian nationals residing in a Gulf state. The plot was uncovered Mar 13. and authorities took precautions at the Embassy and surrounding area before arresting two suspects the next day.

The timing of the alleged attack coincides with a U.S. decision to halt all consular services for a week starting March 15 at the Embassy and diplomatic missions in Jiddah and Dhahran.

The list of targets recalls a wave of attacks launched by Al Qaeda inside the kingdom from 2004 to 2007, which killed dozens of people, including foreigners, and threatened the stability of one of the world's most important oil-producing nations. Saudi Arabia is also home to Islam's holiest sites, in Mecca and Medina.

Interior Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Mansour al-Turki told the Associated Press there have been five ISIS-related attacks across the kingdom in recent months that have killed 15 civilians and security personnel. But he said Saudis have largely ignored ISIS’s calls to take up arms against their government and attack the Shiite minority, security forces and foreigners living in the kingdom.

"We do have a number of people who do respond to such calls and do try to carry out such terrorist organizations' orders, but these people do not represent the Saudi population, do not represent the 20 million Saudis," he said in remarks to the AP a day before the announcement of the arrests, which took place over several months.

Al-Turki said the security raids included a cell of 65 people arrested in March who were involved in a plan to target residential compounds and prisons. They also allegedly planned to carry out attacks aimed at creating sectarian strife. All but two in the cell were Saudi citizens.

Last week, Saudi Arabia increased security around shopping centers and oil installations for a few days, also in response to security threats.

Al-Turki said another group of nine Saudis, including one woman, were arrested on suspicion they tried to use social media to lure a military officer into a trap and assassinate him.

Other arrests involving alleged ISIS operatives included a cell of 15 Saudis broken up around New Year's. That group, which called itself "Soldiers of the Land of the Two Holy Mosques" in reference to sites in Mecca and Medina, trained in desolate areas in the central ultraconservative region of al-Qassim, al-Turki said.

They built explosives, setting off two test bombs, and also engaged in firearms training.

Earlier in the day, al-Turki said police arrested a suspected IS operative wanted for the killing of two police officers in Riyadh, who were shot dead April 8 while on patrol.

Other ISIS attacks in the kingdom in recent months include the shooting and wounding of a Danish citizen in Riyadh and a separate shooting directed at police in the city that did not kill anyone.

Al-Turki told the Associated Press that a total of seven ISIS-linked suspects have been killed by police in raids.

Fox News' James Rosen and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Are We Being Psychologically Conditioned To Accept Martial Law In America?

By Michael Snyder, on April 29th, 2015

Martial Law - Public DomainHave you noticed that we are starting to be bombarded with images of troops in the streets? Have you noticed that the term “martial law” is coming up a lot in movies, news broadcasts and even in television commercials? In recent years, it seems like the solution to almost every major crisis involves bringing in troops. In fact, it has already gotten to the point where when something really bad happens a lot of Americans immediately cry out for troops to be brought in. And we are seeing the same patterns over and over again. Just remember what happened in Ferguson – protesters were whipped up to a frenzy, when the riots began the police were ordered to stand down and not intervene, and finally National Guard troops were brought in as the “solution” to a crisis that had escalated wildly out of control. This is the exact same pattern that we are witnessing in Baltimore, and as you will see below, National Guard troops all over the nation have been training for this exact type of scenario. A couple of decades ago, many Americans would have regarded the notion of “martial law in America” as absolutely unthinkable, but these days the threat of civil unrest is causing an increasing number of Americans to embrace the idea of troops patrolling our city streets.

The anger toward the police that we see in the city of Baltimore is very real, but there also seem to be a lot of signs that the events of the past several days have been orchestrated and manipulated. This is something that I covered in my previous article entitled “12 Unanswered Questions About The Baltimore Riots That They Don’t Want Us To Ask“. But what we have found out since then is that high school kids appear to have been “herded” by the police into the Mondawmin neighborhood in Baltimore when school was let out on Monday

When school let out that afternoon, police were in the area equipped with full riot gear. According to eyewitnesses in the Mondawmin neighborhood, the police were stopping bussesand forcing riders, including many students who were trying to get home, to disembark. Cops shut down the local subway stop. They also blockaded roads near the Mondawmin Mall and Frederick Douglass High School, which is across the street from the mall, and essentially corralled young people in the area. That is, they did not allow the after-school crowd to disperse.

Even though most of the kids did not seem to have any interest in participating in the much-hyped “purge”, it looks like authorities were determined to get their “purge” one way or another. The following was posted to Facebook by a Baltimore teacher named Meghann Harris…

Police were forcing busses to stop and unload all their passengers. Then, [Frederick Douglass High School] students, in huge herds, were trying to leave on various busses but couldn’t catch any because they were all shut down. No kids were yet around except about 20, who looked like they were waiting for police to do something. The cops, on the other hand, were in full riot gear, marching toward any small social clique of students…It looked as if there were hundreds of cops.

Another teacher seems to confirm the other accounts that you just read…

A teacher at Douglass High School, who asked not to be identified, tells a similar story: “When school was winding down, many students were leaving early with their parents or of their own accord.” Those who didn’t depart early, she says, were stranded. Many of the students still at school at that point, she notes, wanted to get out of the area and avoid any Purge-like violence. Some were requesting rides home from teachers. But by now, it was difficult to leave the neighborhood. “I rode with another teacher home,” this teacher recalls, “and we had to route our travelaround the police in riot gear blocking the road…The majority of my students thought what was going to happen was stupid or were frightened at the idea. Very few seemed to want to participate in ‘the purge.’

This paints a very different picture than we are getting from the media.

But once the violence and rioting did start, the police were nowhere to be found. In fact, it is being reported that the mayor of Baltimore actually ordered the police to “stand down” and allow the chaos to spiral out of control…

Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake ordered the police to stand down as riots and looting broke out across they city, a new report claims.

According to a senior law enforcement source, the embattled mayor effectively told her officers to do nothing as the city began to burn – raising questions as to whether the rioting could have been stopped.

Finally, after several hours of madness, the order was given and the National Guard was brought in to quell the rioting.

And it just so happens to turn out that National Guard troops all over the nation have recently been engaged in something called “civil unrest training”

Many of the Guardsmen are trained for a situation just like the one in Maryland.

It’s called “civil unrest training,” and it was recently completed in Tennessee with a local police department.

Troops have also trained in Maryland and Colorado.

“It really helped put it into perspective the person we are going to be up against – the rioter, the unruly person,” said one National Guard official.

The training includes gas mask training and practice with shields and batons.

Isn’t that convenient?

There are so many instances in which “training” seems to eerily correspond with actual events. That is one of the reasons why so many people are concerned about Jade Helm and all of the other very elaborate military exercises that are being held around the country in 2015. In fact, there has been so much concern about Jade Helm that the governor of Texas has ordered the Texas Guard to monitor Jade Helm…

Gov. Greg Abbott ordered the Texas Guard to monitor federal military exercises in Texas after some citizens have lit up the Internet saying the maneuvers are actually the prelude to martial law.

The operation causing rampant suspicions is a new kind of exercise involving elite teams such as the SEALs and Green Berets from four military branches training over several states from July 15 to Sept. 15

Called Jade Helm 15, the exercise is one of the largest training operations done by the military in response to what it calls the evolving nature of warfare. About 1,200 special operations personnel will be involved and move covertly among the public. They will use military equipment to travel between seven Southwestern states from Texas to California.

The following is a map from Jade Helm materials, and it designates Utah and Texas as “hostile territory”. Yes, I know that this is supposed to be an “exercise”, but even so this is highly inappropriate to say the least…

Jade Helm

Lastly, I want to share with you an AARP commercial that appears to have a subliminal message in the background about martial law.

Why in the world would a television commercial aimed at senior citizens talk about martial law?

I have no idea.

If you listen very carefully to the video posted below, you will hear the following message in the background…

Riots nationwide have prompted local governments to declare martial law.

The President is asking that citizens find safety and remain calm.

Authorities are working to contain the outbreak.

Here is the video. Watch it for yourself and see what you think…

So what in the world are we supposed to make of all this?

Please feel free to share your opinion by posting a comment below…

Starving sea lions now fight U.S. fishermen for food as West Coast ecosystem collapses

Wednesday, April 29, 2015 by: L.J. Devon, Staff Writer

(NaturalNews) The West Coast ecosystem is in a state of dire collapse. The Southern California sea lion population is dwindling to new lows as countless hungry and emaciated pups wash ashore. There's simply not enough food to go around for the mammals. Some believe the acidity of the waters is intensifying, not allowing certain species of fish to survive. The sudden decline in sardine biomass off the West coast is directly impacting larger animals in the food chain like the Southern California sea lions. A record number of these beautiful sea mammals have been rescued since 2013, when an unusual "mortality event" was declared. As the animals struggle to find food, some appear to be getting vicious and may now attack humans for food.

In fact, a fisherman recently had a violent altercation with a sea lion at a San Diego marina. As he was holding a large fish and posing for a picture, a sea lion jumped from the water, hopped on deck and lunged at the man and his prized catch. The sea lion effectively took the fish and pulled the man into the ocean. Authorities said the man was injured. San Diego Fire Rescue spokesman Lee Swanson reported that the violent altercation resulted in the fisherman being carried underwater for 15 breathtaking seconds. When the man was rescued, he was taken to a local hospital and treated for cuts on his arm and hand.

Why are sea lions becoming vicious?

Official sources may propose that global warming is causing mass migration of fish away from the West coast, resulting in starving sea lions, but slight fluctuations in water current temperature may be part of larger cycles and shifts that naturally occur in the ocean.

Other sources say a rise in ocean water acidity is making the West Coast waters less palatable for fish to live in, ultimately starving the sea lions of their prey. This could be true, since the byproducts of industrial waste leach into groundwater, unleashing toxins into streams, rivers and then ultimately the ocean. In this investigation, snail shells are reportedly thinning and cracking under pressure because rising ocean water acidity is making them extremely fragile.

Also, some suggest that Fukushima radioactive pollution is affecting the overall health of the Pacific Ocean.

Then there's the fact of overfishing. Sea lions may simply be starved off the West Coast because fisheries are taking in more sardine biomass than can be replaced naturally. Consequentially, the sea lions are forced to go on longer voyages to find food for their young.

The Pacific Fishery Management Council has the responsibility of recommending annual harvest specifications for the U.S. fishery to conserve important populations of fish. The Council makes its determinations by measuring stock biomass for the Pacific sardine northern subpopulation along the entire West Coast up to 300 nm offshore.

According to the council, the stock biomass peaked in 1999 (1.27million metric tons) and again in 2007 (1.42mmt), but has dropped off significantly in the years thereafter. In July 2014 the stock biomass was projected to be just 369,506 metric tons.

Based on these numbers, the Council is setting a harvest guideline for the U.S. Fishery for 2014-2015 of just 28,646 metric tons.

Could overfishing be at the heart of the ecosystem collapse on the West Coast?

As the sardine population dwindles, how aggressive will sea lions become as they starve for food?

Huge crowd of concerned Texas citizens protest Jade Helm at Bastrop Commissioners Court

Wednesday, April 29, 2015 by: B. Pierson

(NaturalNews) A diverse array of Americans was present at the Bastrop County Commissioners Court at 9:00 AM on April 27, 2015. Citizens filled the seats in the courtroom, lined the walls and crowded the hall outside. Most of them were anxious to attend the meeting that would take place two hours later, where Operation Jade Helm 15 would be discussed.

By 11:00 AM, the crowd had more than doubled. Veterans, concerned citizens and even the county commissioners were astonished by the huge turnout, especially by how many younger persons showed up, informed through alternative and social media.

The crowd was too large for the courtroom, so a separate viewing room was set up downstairs, where a TV relayed the court proceedings via Skype, which cut out intermittently to the immense frustration of the local citizens, many of whom never heard their questions answered or concerns addressed.

County Judge Paul Pape presided over the meeting and said its purpose was to inform and answer questions about Jade Helm, not entertain conspiracy, advocate political viewpoints or try to change constituents' minds on the matter.

(The courtroom was packed, with no place left to sit or stand.)

Judge Pape began the meeting and introduced two representatives for Operation Jade Helm, which he referred to as "this project." Director of Public Affairs of the U.S. Army Special Operations Command Lt. Col. Mark Lastoria would be providing most of the information during the meeting, and he was joined by Thomas Meade, the operations planner for Jade Helm.

"RMTs [realistic military training] are training that is conducted off of the federal reservation," said Lt. Col. Mark Lastoria after being introduced. "It is done on private property, and it's a process that's designed to ensure proper coordination between the Department of Defense and representatives of the local and regional authorities [who] are made aware of the training. ... It's held on private property and it can be held in some instances on public property, such as like a state park."

(Even the impromptu viewing room downstairs was crowded with at least 80 attendants.)

Landowners volunteered their private property for the Jade Helm exercises, Lastoria explained, going on to say, "Jade Helm is simply just a challenging eight-week training exercise for unconventional warfare, and it's an exercise that will be conducted throughout Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and Utah. ... Jade Helm 15 will run from 15 July to 15 September 2015. Personnel participating in Jade Helm or units participating in Jade Helm will come from U.S. Army Special Forces Command at Fort Bragg. They'll be on the ground for about eight weeks, and we'll have some Navy SEALs participating for about two weeks. United States Air Force Special Operations Command will take part in it at varying points in time throughout the eight weeks. And there will be a small amount of U.S. Marine Force Special Operations Command participating for about two weeks. And then for about five days, 82nd Airborne Division will have a battalion participating with about 600 soldiers, 600 paratroopers."

He also said that "interagency partners" would also be involved, including the State Department and the FBI. Many attendees wondered why the State Department, the government body charged with conducting foreign affairs on the behalf of U.S. citizens and that covered up the murder of our ambassador in Benghazi and started a proxy war in Ukraine under Hillary Clinton's command, would be involved. Lastoria said it was because, when invading a country, "we have to go in, get rid of the enemy forces, a lot of the times we have to rebuild the country, so the Department of State is one of our interagency partners. ... With the State Department, it's all about nation building."

According to Lastoria, another major component of Jade Helm will be soldiers training to blend in with the local community. Several audience members questioned how soldiers would be blending in with the community if they are on private property, and Lastoria responded that "role players" would also be involved, simulating communities in rural land, where soldiers must infiltrate them. The "role players" will be dressed as civilians -- presumably American civilians -- and their job will be to "pick up on" soldiers' activities. The FBI would also be investigating these role players, and soldiers will gather unspecified information to relay to the FBI as well.

Lastoria said that this operation, the first of its kind in U.S. history, was about getting "back to the basics," claiming that not going through with these exercises would be like allowing a muscle to wither. He did not clarify why the U.S. military needs to train its muscle to adapt to U.S. terrain, nor did he clarify this point when asked later by the audience, instead repeating the line that it would help our soldiers overseas.

During the presentation, Lastoria claimed that the name "Jade Helm" means nothing. They're just completely random, pointless words, according to him, so don't read too much into it or try to associate it with China's rising economy and military or the blue helmets of UN's peacekeeping forces. He also claimed that the information regarding Jade Helm that was released on the internet was not finalized and citizens were never supposed to have seen that they labeled Utah and Texas as "hostile." They had meant to take the South and Southwest and draw a fictional country out in the ocean instead. He promised that, next time, the military will do a better job of concealing this information so citizens don't get worried.

At this point in the meeting, Lastoria now said that "a lot of," rather than all of, the training in Texas will "take place on private land," and soldiers will be identified by an orange armband in public.

Once the Commissioners opened the floor to questions, one citizen asked, "In light of the people's overwhelming opposition to this martial law program, would the Commissioners Court consider reversing their invitation to these guys, and would the court be offended if I told the colonel that I didn't believe a single word that he just said?" The question was met by overwhelming applause from the audience, in both the courtroom and the viewing room below. Judge Pape responded, stutteringly, by saying that the agenda was to discuss Operation Jade Helm, and they wouldn't be taking any action whatsoever.

One commenter asked if military personnel would be knocking on people's doors. Lastoria hinted that that is a possibility. "We shouldn't have to," he said, claiming that the only reason would be to warn residents about helicopters flying overhead at night.

When a question referred to Jade Helm possibly being connected to Agenda 21, Lastoria actually denied having knowledge about the UN's published plan to control "sustainable development" in the world, despite his high position in dealing with military intelligence of international scope.

Later, a young lady asked if it was possible for the citizens to reverse the court's decision. Judge Pape replied, "I'm not going to say it can't be reversed." However, he also said that the commissioners absolutely would not reverse their decision, so the decision is final, even though the citizens present indicated that they would have voted otherwise.

One commenter at the meeting asked why more isn't being done to secure the almost-nonexistent southern border, while millions of dollars are being spent on this single military operation that concerned citizens have overwhelmingly rejected. The courtroom burst into applause at the question, but Lastoria decline to answer it.

Upon being asked whether the military might assume a law enforcement role, Lastoria hinted that the Posse Comitatus Act may in fact be violated, saying, "We shouldn't have to" enforce the law, but soldiers will act as "good Samaritans" in such cases if necessary. Another commenter asked about the federal government labeling "right-wingers," "gun owners," "Christians," Constitution advocates and others as "domestic terrorists" and if this concerned Lastoria at all, but he refused to answer, instead telling him to take it up with the President and the Department of Homeland Security. The commenter ended his turn saying to Judge Pape, "I voted for you, sir, I respect you. And the people of Bastrop do not want this." His comments were followed by another loud round of applause.

(Center: Judge Paul Pape; Far right: Lt. Col. Mark Lastoria.)

Judge Pape later expressed surprise at the large turnout of citizens concerned about military training taking place in their backyard. He said that it was "good for democracy," although no democratic process was involved and the people had no vote other than to vote for representatives now making decisions contrary to their constituents' wishes.

At one point, Lastoria himself brought up the issue of the five Wal-Mart Supercenters that recently closed under mysterious circumstances. In response to a question regarding UN trucks being spotted in so-called "hostile" states, he said that neither the United Nations, the DHS nor Wal-Mart have anything to do with Jade Helm. Later, Lastoria would say that the Wal-Mart closings were due to "labor disputes" and a retaliation against unionization attempts, though only one of the closed Wal-Marts was known for labor activism. He essentially claimed to know that Wal-Mart was engaged in a conspiracy and was lying about the "plumbing issues," even though he also pretends to have no knowledge of Agenda 21. Further on during the presentation, Lastoria refused to answer a question as to whether he would violate the Constitution by following an order to disarm American citizens.

Lastoria also explained that exercises would be taking place in Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Mississippi, Louisiana and Florida, spreading out across the conservative-leaning South and Southwest. Additionally, the operation will involve cybersecurity exercises. The military representatives did not specify what kind of cybersecurity exercises but did say that they would not occur in Bastrop County.

After 1:00 PM, Judge Pape adjourned the meeting, leaving many in the audience with unanswered questions. As the audience filed out of the courthouse, many citizens muttered their distrust of the military operation, complained that Lastoria refused to properly answer questions and accused the Commissioners Court of being bought off. The crowd left the courtroom, frustrated with a government they can't trust and angered by their lack of political recourse in another of many dark days in American "democracy."
