Hi Pauline, Thank you for the invite. I would like to say that everything is well here, however I am very depressed. Shirley has been in quite a bit of pain this past year and now she has an in home therapist coming twice a week. She either has a tear in her Rotator cup or something else, plus possibly Tennis Elbow. We have been doing very bad financially for the past two months and have not had enough money to get to the third week of the month. This month is worse. We are already out of funds with three weeks to go. I have called several organizations in our area to see if we could get some temporary help and have been turned away by all of them. Our phone service will be turned off this coming Monday. Shirley has always been there for me, but now that she needs me, I can't help. We are both running out of medication. As the charities are not willing to help us, I am going to do my best to get her medications filled, and wait on mine. The thing that fristrates me the most is that I had to retire early at 62 years old. I was still willing and able to work but I was only getting between eight to ten hours a week. The Mexican workers that I trained were working thirty to thirty-five hours a week. They were illegal and the restaurant manager knew it. However, they were also tax exempt. When taxes are taken out of a person's paycheck, the same amount is taken out of the employers paycheck as well. Therefore, it is more profitable for the employer to hire illegals. The ones that I worked with laughed about it. One of them told me that he was on welfare as well and claiming six children. Before I left the job he told me that he had just finished paying for something in Mexico that he would be taking over soon. I asked him what it was and he told me that he and about nine other friends were working two full time jobs for four years (Tax Exempt) and were paying time payments on a Ocean Front Resort in Mexico. They had made their final payment and getting the deed to the property. American business owners know what is going on and the Welfare system knows that they don't have all the children that they claim to have, but they won't do anything about it. It is like being told that America is doing off shore drilling to save money. Than, when the largest oil spill ever threatens to ruin billions of dollars worth of wildlife and seafood, we learn that British Petroleum owns our oil. They even knew that the rig was in jeopardy two weeks before the spill but ignored it. I feel so helpless, but there is nothing that I can do. Once our phone is turned off, Shirley will have no way to contact her doctor. All of these years I have tried to be patient and not make waves, but as we begin to loose our other services like Water and electricity, our next step will be homeless, all because our government wants to save money at the risk of jeopardizing it's citizen's health. I am truly depressed because I don't know what to do. At this point, I am really thinking that if I'm gone, Shirley will get the help that she needs.
GOD BLESS YOU and please forgive me for failing in Life Your friend ~Mike~ (P.S. Although I don't deserve it, I am a candidate for the next POTW)
