Dear Cheryl,

Thank you for this beautiful poem on our Lord Jesus Christ's resurrection. Let me please tell you a few thoughts that came to my mind as soon as I read it.

I think I have told you how we in my country, and more particularly in the capital, Lima, where I live, commemorate these most special week of the year. And even though the tone today is a little less sad, our "Semana Santa" is in general a week of mourning among the more conservative Catholics, with processions and sermons and lamentation for the death of our Savior. I guess it is our heavy Spanish tradition which makes us put the accent on His suffering and also on our sins. As a reaction, the youngsters pay little or no attention to it and prefer to leave the city for a few days' camping on the nearby beaches, entirely oblivious to any holy feelings and rather enjoying music and drinking alcohol... very sad indeed.

By contrast, the way you in USA generally view Easter was a revelation for me. As a more optimistic nation, you seemed to put more emphasis on Jesus' resurrection than on His death, and I thought that with this observation of mine there was nothing else that could be said about it. However, this wonderful, meaningful poem of yours has made me view it from yet another point of view - that of His work!

But this is another story, about which there is a world of things to say. I will meditate in your poem for many days to come.

Sincerely,

Luis Miguel Goitizolo

Hi Roger,

I trust that you had a nice Easter with family as you reflected on what it meant for Christ to die for us...but then...the RESURRECTION! That's the crux of Christianity.

If he hadn't been to the grave and then been resurrected...then we would be like any other religion. Every other religion knows where the bones are buried. Think about it. We know where Mohammed's bones are purported to be, we know where Buhda's are supposed to be. When Christ arose there weren't any bones left behind. He was physically raised from the dead and now he interceeds on our behalf.

It's an old story but it's worth repeating over and over. It's truth rings through the centuries as we experience the effects of what he did. I'm so glad that he gives us the opportunity to have redemption through his death and resurrection.

He was either a liar, a lunatic, or it's true what he said....that he really was the Son of God who takes away the sins of the world. PTL.

By the way, I loved your poem. It's one of the ones I remembered when I started reading it. I loved it then and I loved it again as I read it today. I loved letting it soak in. Very well written and I think it's one of your best!!!

Thank you for posting it here!
