As Goulash is one of my favourite dishes (love paprika).

Has anybody got an even more healthy version of this?

This has cubed beef and soured cream (any good alternatives?)

Crock-Pot Hungarian Goulash

Hearty and warm, this may not be the most authentic goulash, but it's certainly tasty. Serves six.

Hello Roger,

Not sure if it's really healthier or not, and even though I agree, beef or red meat tastes better than the white meat in goulash preparation, to avoid the health hassles I make my goulash with chicken instead. I actually now like it better with chicken & try to avoid using beef most of the times.

Of course, then again, since I no longer eat any Red Meat, if I want to eat the Goulash, then I must use Chicken.

Crockpot Hungarian (Chicken) Goulash

Ingredients
1 cut up chicken
3 med. onions
2 c. water per chicken
2 chicken bouillon cubes
4 tbsp. sour cream
2 tbsp. paprika
Directions
Season the chicken & saute it till turns brown in a pan. When chicken is done, brown onions in a pan. Add chicken to these brown onions, add water, paprika & bouillon cubes. Cook chicken over low heat, till chicken becomes tender.
Take out chicken from the gravy & keep the gravy simmering over low heat for it to become thick.
Serve hot with rice, noodles or even some home-made bread of your choice.
Have A Terrific Saturday My Friend,
Phil

Thanks Phil,

I love goulash with plain boiled potato.

I like to mash them on the side of the plate as I eat. Needs lots of paprika gravy though.

Hi Roger,

Hope you enjoyed the Shepherd's Pie over at Papa's Kitchen as well.

So glad that you came back by to visit, and I loved the suggestion about the Boiled Potatoes. Actually, I love Potatoes prepared just about any way, but I must admit that my favorite is boiled in their Jackets(skins), because my Mother & Grandmother both always told me that that was where the nutrients were.

BOILED POTATOES IN JACKETS

BOILED POTATOES IN JACKETS

Scrub desired amount of potatoes cutting out any bad spots. Boil in large kettle of salted water until done when the skin splits when pinched with fingers or when poked with a fork. The fork comes out of the potatoes easily. Drain off water. Potatoes in the jackets have lots of uses. Peel and mash, add butter, salt and pepper or serve with gravy. Grate them to make hash browns. Peel, slice and fry in butter. And of course, use them for potato salad or peel and cut up in stew.

Have A Wonderful Weekend,

Phil

Phil,

The biggest problem with Shepherds pie is getting fresh Shepherds out of season.
