Kathy, Very good and it is a subject that is dear to my heart. A good sheperd will tend his flock, protect them from wild beast, and lead them to a shelterd area when a storm is aproaching. The sheperd's rod and staff was and is used to drive off beasts of prey, while the hook at the end is useful to draw a wandering sheep or lamb back into the flock.
