Funny Questions - Mind if I Ask?
10/19/2005 9:14:09 AM
Hi: Here's a set of funny questions for you. I'll even start so you don't feel squishy about being the first one. 1) Do you like what you do for a living? 2) Do you make enough income from it? 3) If there was a slider bar for "satisfaction" where would yours be? Why? Know why I'm asking? It's the same theory that AA uses when they ask people to stand up and say "Hi. I'm Joe and I'm an alcoholic." See, when we admit something OUT LOUD, we hear ourselves better. We humans do a remarkable job of ignoring what we feel and plugging forward on the same path. I think we create incentive to change when we start talking to other people that share the same feelings and didn't even know it. Don't be shy! : ) Linda

Hi: As promised, I said I'd go first. It's okay if your answers include "no" for any of the questions. : ) 1) Yes, I truly enjoy what I do. 2) Yes, I make enough income. 3) My satisfaction is probably at about 60% Why? Because I make enough to provide a good living, but I'd like to be able to give more to charity and help others more. I really do believe that true satisfaction comes from helping others, not just helping ourselves... but that we need to help ourselves before we can help anyone else. From reading many other posts here, I believe most people feel the same. I've heard many people say the reason they want more income - and it's almost always because they want to help someone. A spouse or a parent or a child or the needy. I am no different in that way. No one says "I want to be filthy rich to have everything I want and share none." Those people exist - but they aren't the majority of us. So, I'm like many of you. I'd like to donate more, help more and give more. It does my soul good. As the amount that I can give increases, my personal satisfaction does, too. How about you? If you're feeling game to look inwards a little - do join in. I think we look inside first - and then we can come back out to find solutions to what we found in there. : ) Linda

Linda, 1) Yes, I enjoy both of my jobs very, very much. 2) Unfortunately, I do not make enough income, which is why I am here at Adland and YOUR forums. 3) My satisfaction is about 80%. It would be higher if I were making more money, but both of my jobs allow for lots of interaction with others, so I am quite happy.

. . 1) Yes, I enjoy. 2) Yes, I make enough income. 3) 50% Satisfied. Yes I enjoy what I do and make enough to pay bills, save, invest, and give to charity, but some months run tight trying to keep up with all that and the time factor is increasingly annoying. Shari and I have to work every day to provide this income. We just took our first actual vacation this year, first one in 7 years. I would like an online business to help provide about 50% of my offline income so we could work less in our offline business, pay off our house faster, and save for when my mother will need extra income to get along in her senior years. I truly believe in giving as much as possible in order to open up the channels to receive. Even something as simple as leaving a nice tip for our food server or bartender makes me feel good and helps me to "Stand in the Drift". I'm only 50% satisfied with my working life because of the above mentioned time factor and I have not reached a sustainable online income yet. But times they are a changin! :0) Jim White

1) Yes I truly enjoy what I do 2) No I don't make enough income 3) Satisfaction changes on a daily basis My goals are probably some what different than a lot of others. I enjoy what I do and the person I do it with makes it even more enjoyable. So far as income goes I would like to make my yearly income in a 6 month period and just do minor work the other six months. I want to take the pleasent months, being in Canada I find winter unpleasent, so in the late spring to early fall I would prefer to be backpacking and canoeing the interior regions of the country. This way I would work short periods to do upkeep for clients and do most of my design work in the late fall to early spring. When needed, communication is as close as a sat phone and a laptop.
