Hello Friends,

What is Memorial Day to You? 

Is it the days the pools open nationwide? 

Is a long car ride to the family reunion, where you meet a bunch of people that look a lot like you, that you seldom ever see? 

Is it grilling hamburgers, hot dogs, horeshoes, volleyball, and playing a pick up game of softball (so the little ones, the girls and the old men can play)?

If the above are your memories of Memorial Days past, that is fantasticly terrific! 

Because that is what those that gave their lives, meant for you to be able to do on Memorial Day.  Enjoy the freedoms and liberties they gave the ultimate sacrifice for us to enjoy days like this coming weekend.  

Memorial Day 2009 will be observed this weekend and I sincerely hope you have plans to enjoy some or all of the above mentioned. 

But before we start preparing, loading up the cars and checking the weather reports let's take a moment and remember what Memorial Day Really Is.

Some people think that the American soldier is A mindless killing machine with no remorse or compassion.

This couldn't be farther from the truth.

The fact is they have emotions like anyone else they feel, pain,happiness, sorrow, pity, compassion, sympathy, remorse, and sometimes pure rage like any person would feel if put into the position they are put in each and every day.

They are doing A job and doing it to the best of there ability.

Don't blame the soldier for the choices our government makes but instead praise the American soldier for being so brave and loyal to his or hers country and to the mission at hand.

Have a happy and safe Memorial Day Weekend, visit a veteran, spend a moment of silence at the Veterans Cemetery (there is one close to you) and most of all, make a promise that their sacrifices were not for naught.

America is a Republic and the fact we recognize a God and value the Rule of Laws and not the rule of people.

We have created a false monarchy, with career politicians that have teamed up with others, to trample the documents that makes America great. 

This Memorial Day may be one of the most important in our history IMHO.  What does Memorial Day mean to you?  Share your thoughts here.

Hi Jim,

Memorial Day is very important to me because I need to take time to be aware of all our men have done to serve the country.  They gave so much and so many of them are still recovered from all their wounds.  Mostly the mental wounds that will never go away. 

PBS has a program on Sunday Evening at 8:00 p. m. est in Washington D.C. the capitol building.  It is very good, there is a tribute to all the armed forces.  with a repeat of the show, in the next time slot.  I urge you all to watch it is will worth your time.

Hey Myrna,

Thanks for the info on the PBS broadcast.  It should be interesting.  I lived with veterans of many of these wars and conflicts. 

My dad, uncles and grandfathers were all vets of some war or another. 

They carry the scars so we don't have to and should be recognized, not only those broken by the brutality. 

Also those that carry on even today as productive members of our society.  They should all, be honored this Memorial Day, too.

Hello Jim,

US has Memorial Day which is in May while Australia and
New Zealand Army Corp have ANZAC Day on 25 April each
year.

Whether it is an ANZAC day or Memorial Day to me is not
the question, but we remember all whom have served in
the Armed Forces through all Wars making our respective
countries safe and Free. 

Rememberence for the ones who died and also injured,
defending our countries to be Free from anyone from other countries whom would try and would take over the people,
and everything we have. Change our culture, and our way of living..Freedom we have to do and be anything within the laws
of the nation, come and go.

Sadly there are a lot of Veterans whom have slipped through
the cracks are not being remembered for their services and
many are living on the streets. Their needs have not been met.
Some reasons, because they have been tramatized (shell shocked) that they have not been able to come home and pick
up where they left off before going to war. 

Jim, No this not a time party from my perspective but to
remember and be very thankful that fathers, sons, brothers,
uncles, nephews and cousins went to war to keep us their
families safe.    Now a days women are serving and taking
tour duty.
