   As always, it is good to see you. You thank me for the comment and you are most welcome. There is another comment that I am going to make that might not set as well on your heart though. It is a comment about gun laws in Canada and what has happened to the crime rate since their inception. If insanity were the objective, it would be well served by the bureaucrats that write these laws.

CANADA'S GUN REGISTRATION FAILURE: VIOLENT CRIME RATE DOUBLE THAT OF U.S.

For Immediate Release: January 17, 2006

BELLEVUE, WA – Canada's billion-dollar boondoggle – the national gun registration scheme – has proven itself an abysmal failure, as that country's violent crime rates are double those reported in the United States, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) noted today.

"We looked at violent crime rates per 100,000 population in both countries, using the most recent available data," said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, "and we were not surprised at what we found. Since Canada started this ridiculous and costly program, violent crime has gone up dramatically, at the same time that crime in the United States has declined. Yet, there are people in the states who think Canada's gun legislation should be the model for America.

"By comparing the data," he detailed, "we found that the violent crime rate in the United States was 475 per 100,000 population, while up north, there were 963 violent crimes per 100,000 population. The figure for sexual assault in Canada per 100,000 population is more than double that of the United States, 74 as opposed to 32.1, and the assault rate in Canada is also more than twice that of the states, 746 to our 295 for the population rate."

Noted CCRKBA Executive Director Joe Waldron: "What happened in the states to actually contribute to a reduction in our overall crime rate is simple. We've got 38 states with shall-issue, right-to-carry concealed handgun laws. While Canada has clamped down on its citizens' gun rights, our citizens have been empowered against criminals by passage of these laws. The disparity in crime rates between the two countries says it all about how well gun registration works to stop crime, as opposed to actually carrying guns to deter criminals, and fight back if necessary."

A Jan. 3 story in Canada's National Post by writer David Frum confirmed CCRKBA's independent finding. Frum wrote, "Canada's overall crime rate is now 50% higher than the crime rate in the United States." Later, Frum added: "Gun registries and gun bans…do not work."

"Instead of promising to ban legally-owned handguns in Canada," Waldron observed, "Prime Minister Paul Martin should be urging citizens to arm themselves. He should encourage Parliament to scrap gun registration and replace it with a gun ownership and training program."

"Since going on the warpath against guns, Canada's Liberals have presided over the sharpest rise in violent crime in the nation's history," Gottlieb said. "There are more rapes, more robberies and more murders. If that tells Canadian citizens anything at all, it's that Paul Martin and his Liberals have literally been ‘dead wrong' on guns."

Obama Stacks Supreme Court Senate Bans Gun Sales   Failing to get traction for his anti-gun agenda in Congress, Barack Obama is trying instead to stack the federal courts with liberal anti-gunners while an anti-gun Senate pushes through the nomination.   "President Obama's gun prohibitionist agenda has fallen on deaf ears on Capitol Hill," said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb.   "But now he is picking judicial nominees that will almost certainly legislate from the bench," he continued. "Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor has already ruled that the Second Amendment does not apply to the states. Lautenberg (D-NJ), Jack Reed (D-RI) and Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) have joined Paul Helmke, President of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and victims and family members of the Virginia Tech tragedy, to introduce legislation to eliminate the private transfers of firearms and close the nation's "gun show loophole."   The Senate bill is in the Judiciary Committee, chaired by liberal Democrat Leahy, anti-gun- yet not willing to take on the second amendment issue and not likely, to give the bill a hearing.  The House Judiciary Committee is chaired by liberal Democrat Conyers and might stand a chance of consideration as Conyers is anti-gun and will support this bill.   What is more likely, however, is that Lautenberg will offer the legislation as an amendment to a different bill as he did in 1999, when Lautenberg successfully passed legislation identical to this bill as an amendment to a juvenile justice bill.   The White House has clearly made a political decision at this time not to push for closing the gun show loophole or the assault weapons ban -- both of which it clearly supports and would gladly sign into law.   SUPPORT PRIVATE GUN SALES?    weather you like guns or not. Weather you own a gun or not. there is a trend in America that is going on right now. that trend is to take away our civil liberties and constitutional rights. Obama is no newcomer to this movement and his attourney general has always been an outspoken advocate for anti gun laws.

Hello Jo Sorry about not responding to you sooner. I don;t get notifications to this forum so I just kinda forgot about it. Hey, I'm with you Jo. Like I have always believed,,,guns don't kill,,,,,,people do. we need to work on the attitudes of people to stop the crime and we need to work on the attitudes of the politicians who want to interfere with our ability to defend ourselves and our families. I don't have any guns ( registered ) so this really doesn't pertain to me but i will stand beside anyone who believes that it is our right to bear arms. Too many of our rights have been stripped away and we have to protect what is left with everything we have. Including our guns. Sincerely, Billdaddy
