Here is a beautiful way to deal with stress;

Find a blue sky.

Not one available?

Borrow this one.

Just spend time looking and relaxing.

Hello Roger,

I found the release of writing down my feelings and emotions
in poetry.  When I first started the tears fell as I was I writing
because I was reliving again the pain, yet when I finished and
read the finished poem I was at peace.  I had been carrying
around a burden and once I put this burden to paper I was
able to get it off me.

Then I was able to write about humourous events and about
everyday things I saw and thought about or had a go at that
was more uplifting to me and worship poems.

I had a break of about 4 years where I could not finish any
poetry I could not get it to flow, so I put it away and thought
it was a short lived gift.  Then in the middle of last year I was
inspired again whereby I have written quite different topics.

I felt that I wanted to leave some mark that I had lived and
experienced life.  Writing in a diary did not work for me because
I felt it could be too personal and then I would not want
someone to read it by mistake and I would either have to hide
it, or not write personally in there.

Poetry has been the tool for me where I can still say what is
on my mind and off my chest.  I enjoy rhyming so this is the
way I choose to present my poetry, yet rhyming is not
necessary or a requirement.

The other day it came to me that my poetry, I could use as
a journal of my life.  I have kept them all and most have been
uploaded to my website and I have recently started blogging
my poetry.

Poetry has helped me so much for my mental and spiritual
state and a very enjoyable pass time.

Amanda

Amanda,

Thank you very much for contributing to this discussion.

I too have found poetry to be a useful way in which to unload emotions.

I have, like most people, suffered occassional sleep problems. Long ago I decided that I would not get up and disrupt my routine but would read instead. Then I discovered that to compose poetry worked better for me.

The very action of finding a rhyme or a word offered a challenge which was in itself tiring. The plus came in the morning when I had a new poem or a really good start to one to show for my sleeplessness.

Writing can be very therapeutic and as you say it can provide a different way to record or reassess events in our lives. Humour is a great healer for stress and if we can focus upon a humerous situation or theme we are diverting our mind from our stress problems and the nervous system has a chance to make repairs.

Amanda, I have read your poetry with enjoyment and with a sense of knowing that I was privileged to be reading about a life-changing event in your life.

Your contribution here might well help somebody.

Roger

Hi John,

Thanks for visiting.

You are right, in fact, as I type here, 12.15 a.m. in the morning, across the room on my sofa are two sleeping figures, my wife Angela and our cat Felix.

Makes me realise I should be in bed.

Roger
