Re: National Gas out Day

I, too, am in on the Sunday Gas Out! But I think that it is time that we re-evaluated our entire fiscal policy as a nation. And certainly reconsidered our tax base. Aren't we taxing ourselves in the US to death in order to spend our money all over the world to remedy situations and governments that hate us anyway and probably always will? We out source our technical jobs to save corporate dollars to labor markets that have lower hourly wage standards depriving US citizens of work opportunities. Although it is a free country and these corporations have the right in a world trade situation to do just that. I think that some of the taxes which are imposed on gasoline could simply be moved to these companies as a sur-charge for exporting jobs! Making it less attractive to export jobs. I am not at all convinced that "exporting democracy at the end of a pointed gun" is indeed democracy on any level. I am not convinced that $5 million a day in Iraq will ever result in a country with a "democratic" government. I fear that the warring factors have been such a part of these societies that a forced democratic vote of the people will only elect partisan governments who will continue to have warring opposition groups determined to overthrow one another. So, George, what have we gained? Are we protected from terrorism or any level? Are we any safer now than we ever were? Is it really harder now for a terrorist group to attack the US internally? I wonder??? We now, thanks to Hurricane Katrina, we have the greatest internal devastation to US citizens that has ever happened. Shouldn't we be spending that $5 million a day to save these people's lives? Maybe you guys will consider me ignorant...but I think we should get our priorities rearranged. I know that I have opened myself up to a "can of political worms" here. However, I will defend your right to your opinion and I hope you will defend mine! All I am really saying is that it is time to seriously reconsider....before none of us can afford the standard of life to which we have become accustomed. Maggie

Hi Kathy, Yes, we all need to do our part, and gasout is sending a message, but sadly, a drop in the bucket as far as oil companies are concerned. They know what is not being spent on one day is going to be spent on another, so they are laughing all the way to the bank. I am old enough to remember the gas shortages of the 80's, yet did we learn our lessons, no, so who is really at fault here, it is the government first, and us second. I pedged back then to do all I could to promote saving gas and I have researched thousands of ecologically sensitive technologies testing them all, and there is something we can all do, but it takes sacrifice. Simply put, number one, we must all rethink our habits of waste. Everyone wastes gas, and all it takes is a few less wasted trips to the store, or car pool, use alternative transportation, just think about each trip before you take it and see if there isn't an alternative. A little planning goes a long way towards saving gas, and everyone is guilty of wasted trips to the store. It is just a matter of changing our bad habits as we are a get it now society overall. If you think about it, everyone will be able to cut a few wasted trips out of the week if we honestly try. The real grass roots answer is we all need to communicate and when there are energy saving technologies introduced, we all need to commit to using them and supporting them and spreading the word as we do here on the forum. I know there are many bogus devices out there, but if we all share our results, honestly, we will all win in the end. Perhaps a forum to discuss fuel saving devices would be timely. Perhaps under the same heading, National Gas Out. (g) In the very near future I will be promoting on such technology I have been beta testing for several months with impressive results, and this is the news we all have to spread to others. There is no income opportunity attached to it at this point, but we were thinking about an affiliate type program to offer an incentive to refer others. I will post to let you know what we decide to do, but we want to make a difference, and several technologies may be packaged together to make the most impact on gas savings. Good luck to all, Mike
