Oh boy, a very favorite parable of mine!  I see it all the time and marvel over what you are calling "inconsistency" which it surely is!  You know what I think Tom?  I think the more we or anyone allows ourself to broadcast the spec in another's eyes, that in itself creates a log in ours, and more so, it "sears" our conscience just a little more, so that this behavior comes a little easier the next time!

For your Encouragement...  Every time you are able to find the will to hold back from returning evil for evil, even in heart, and remain humble with a spirit that has mercy and compassion for the man who is persuaded by the sin nature, not only does fire fall on him if he doesn't repent, and not only have you avoided the "log", but also you have walked in the shoes of the one who said, "Father forgive them for they know not what they do," and you have had imparted to you a little more of that certain "Grace" that has power to love enemies, and pray for them that do all manner of evil against you.

Humility always has it's reward; the meek shall inherit the earth,  and God's certain Love has within it a certain power that man's judgement doesn't to "turn" sinful hearts toward it. 

You'll get over it, and you will have joy when you dismiss it to the Love of God, and you will.            love kim
