I agree that CFP has more reporters willing to report facts and not the fiction that MSM is guilty of but the truth is that there are many in the United States that are staunch fighters and report on a daily basis without fear even though the majority of them are threatened by the muslim world and some even have fatwa's on their heads.

To name a few, Pamella Geller from Atlas Shrugs, Robert Spencer from Jihad Watch, (both Pamella and Robert are founders of SIOA - Stop Islamization Of America and other groups), David Horowitz founder of the Freedom Center owner of Front Page Magazine, Tom Trento from United West who has been reporting on the islamic issue for years and many more.

The brilliance of CFP is that it has some of the best reporters/writers and consolidates their work in a news letter on a daily basis making it easier to access and read. I appreciate their boldness and excellent writing staff and read their articles almost on a daily basis.

I have been reading all of the comments on my last two columns with interest. It seems that everyone, in retrospect, thinks Carter is a fool and a traitor. But then, who voted him in as President? And now that every intelligent and thinking person in the U.S. realizes that Hussein Obama is even worse than Carter, who voted him in?

I hear some saying that they will fight and America will be strong again. Much as I wish that could be true I have to say that in my opinion it will not happen. Others say we must pray and God will set matters right. Sorry, again I cannot agree. I am all for praying, but isn’t it a bit late to start now? Those bumper stickers “God Bless America” make me laugh and cry at the same time. God cannot bless America. It is too late. You know what they are as well as I do. I will not waste time enumerating them. But I will tell you one that most Americans are totally ignorant of and in God’s eyes it is the worst sin of all. God says “I will judge the nations that divide my Land.” Israel is the only Land that God calls His. Jerusalem is the only city on which he has placed His Name. Look at these verses and weep for America.sins. What are they?

God’s People, Israel, were scattered among the nations several times but most notably after the Romans destroyed God’s Temple in 70AD and took the Jews away as slaves to all of the Roman Empire. Even after that there were Jews in the Land to hold title to the Real Estate and prove the Jewish ownership (under God) of Israel for THREE THOUSAND YEARS no matter what usurpers might come and go claiming that they now owned the Land. The Romans claimed ownership of the Land. Later came the Turks who destroyed everything in sight. After them came the British and finally the Americans and the “World Community.” Each one has claimed they know what is best for Israel. Each one has ignored the Bible which should have been their guidebook. The Turks populated God’s Land with Muslims who desecrated all the Holy Sites. They brought in people from many lands who eventually called themselves Palestinians, and if you ask the so-called Palestinians today where their families came from they will tell you they came from Syria, or Iraq, or Jordan. Few can point to a family tree that stretches back more than 100 years in Israel and certainly not for one thousand years. Yet today the World Press and the American State Department have perpetuated the myth that the Palestinian Muslims are the rightful owners of God’s Land.

In an interview with the British Newspaper, Sunday Times, Golda Meir said in June 1969 “There is no such thing as a Palestinian people… It is not as if we came and threw them out and took their country. They didn’t exist.”

Zuheir Mohsen was the son of the village Mukhtar (tribal chief) in Tulkarm, Israel, born in 1936, He was a leader of the Palestinian Liberation Organization between 1971 and 1979. In 1977 Mohsen in an interview with a Dutch Newspaper stated candidly

“The Palestinian people does not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity. In reality today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct “Palestinian people” to oppose Zionism.

For tactical reasons, Jordan, which is a sovereign state with defined borders, cannot raise claims to Haifa and Jaffa, while as a Palestinian, I can undoubtedly demand Haifa, Jaffa, Beer-Sheva and Jerusalem. However, the moment we reclaim our right to all of Palestine, we will not wait even a minute to unite Palestine and Jordan.”

In December 2011 Newt Gingrich made a speech in which he called the Palestinians “an invented people” to the howls of protest from the politically correct morons who are always lauded as the “reasonable ones.” Newt is right and that is one reason he was forced out of the Presidential race. The Palestinian Nation does not exist and they have absolutely no rights to the Land that God deeded to His People Israel.

Yet the United States continues to side with the Muslim residents of Israel against the legitimate government of Israel. Can you imagine how shocked the American government would be if a foreign power intervened in the affairs of the Sovereign state of the United States and told them to give New Mexico back to the Mexicans? Yet in that there is some legitimacy because Mexico did once own the land. Israel today includes the so- called West Bank (Judea and Samaria and Gaza. The West talks of Jewish settlers in these parts of Israel, but in fact it is the Arabs who are unlawful settlers in God’s land.

So the United States seeks to gain world approval by consistently backing the terrorists who are trying to force Israel to give up even more of God’s Land.

It cannot be denied that the United States has been a leading conspirator (under George H Bush) in the plan to divide God’s land in what they called a “Two State Solution.” America sided with the Muslims to divide the Land that God calls His. And now, of course with a Muslim in the White House the pressure is even stronger.

How dare the United States force Israel to give up Gaza to the Muslims? The Bible declares that Gaza belongs to the tribe of Judah. How many members of that tribe are still living in Gaza today? None, thanks to the United States. Now the pressure is on to declare Judea and Samaria (the so-called West Bank) Muslim territory. The Muslims already control Bethlehem, the town where Jesus was born, and most of the Christians have been forced to leave. Does anyone see anything strange about this? American “Christians” pushed for this totally against the will of God as clearly laid down in the Bible.

God says “The Land is MINE. You will not sell it.” (Lev 25:23). The world alliance against God headed by the United States says God’s people MUST give up the Land to the Muslims. That is the greatest sin of America and the one that will bring her down to nothing very soon.

How can God bless America? The plain and simple fact is that He cannot. The American Government is in direct confrontation with God. God cannot bless any nation that is so adamantly defiant as to challenge Him in such a way.

My first visit to Jerusalem was from Beirut, where I lived for a time in the early sixties. We drove through the Bekaa valley to Damascus, Syria, where we stopped for lunch. I still remember the barbecued lamb wrapped in Pita bread with mint and parsley. Then we continued into the country of Jordan and down into Muslim occupied Jerusalem.
So much has happened since then. Israel claimed all of the land of Israel in 1967. Yasir Ararafat and his Fatah movement made war on King Hussein of Jordan in 1970 / 71. The Jordanians won and banished Arafat from the Kingdom. Lebanon made the terrible mistake of allowing Arafat’s terrorists to settle there. And from there he launched his war of terror on the world.

In the ‘60s when I lived there, the population of Lebanon was 60% Christian and 40% Muslim.

Lebanon never had a king. But the Constitution stated that they must always have a Muslim Prime Minister and a Christian President. The Muslims did not like the Christian President Rafic Hariri so they killed him. They followed the law of the Koran which teaches them to kill all who oppose Allah.

Lebanese Christians were forced to leave the country until today Lebanon is more than 60% Muslim and the beautiful city of Beirut is in constant strife. It can no longer be called “The Paris of the Orient.”

The American government together with the British, French, and others are determined to divide the Land and give more than half of it to the enemies of God. In December 2011, America’s Secretary of Defense, Leon Panetta, said “Israel needs to get to the damn table.” In other words, America must force Israel to give away more of God’s Land.

Our government (not just the administration of Hussein Obama but many past administrations) has cursed America by demanding that Israel give up the Land that God told them they must never sell. Therefore I state categorically that America is finished.

I can imagine the howls of protest from some readers to this statement.

I am reminded of the Hans Christian Anderson story of the King who had no clothes. A smart salesman had sold him clothes that only a very wise man could see because they are invisible to stupid people. So the King paraded himself in front of the citizens wearing nothing. Only one little boy looked on in horror and shouted “Look at the King. He has no clothes.”

America, the richest and proudest nation in the World, has no clothes.

In the King and I musical , Yul Brynner learns from Ana that the World is round and many other things that are contrary to what he has been taught. I love the lines in the song “A Puzzlement.”

There are times I almost think

Isn’t it time to end the puzzlement and get back to the truth of God’s Word in which he tells us plainly that He will judge the Nations who divide His Land?

For the past few years I've been "reporting" on the persecution of Christians during the Dearborn Arab Festival. It started a few years ago with Christians being arrested for handing out Christian material during the festival on public property. They were also threatened by the muslims, not allowed to hand out material on public streets and much worse. This year it ended with the muslims hiding behind their children who pelted the Christians with rocks, eggs, milk cartons, concrete blocks etc. It sorta reminds me of the palestinian terrorists hiding behind their children which is also the name and title of this thread (Human Shields In Gaza).

Yes, the escalation of their islamic supremacist demands, their connection to terrorist organization, their funding by radical islamic countries and worst of all by the muslim brotherhood makes the bottom line much more frightening. They are protected by the local police and the only ones who are taken to task by the police are the Christians. Not surprising when the deputy police chief in Dearborn is a muslim.

Is any one surprised then that Dearborn is now better known as Dearbornistan? Does it surprise anyone that from year to year their behavior is getting worse and now that violence broke out and the police stood idly by and did nothing to prevent it that these muslims feel empowered and that anything they do will be accepted and they will be allowed to carry on with their "terrorism"?

I've been warning for years now that radical islam is in your back yard and people still believe that it never could happen in the United States. Tell that to the Christians who were attacked and whose only crime was carrying posters promoting Christianity. Tell that to the murdered in Ft' Hood by the American Jihadi terrrist Maj. Nidal. It's coming to your town and city and whether you realize it or believe it possible it's most probably already there.

Dearborn, MI Police Allow Muslim’s to Stone Christians at 2012 Arab Festival

Wayne County Deputy Chief Mike Jaafar summed up his situational awareness of the 2012 Dearborn Arab Festival in the Dearborn Patch by stating, “No official arrests were made, and Jaafar said his team was pleased with the overall outcome.”

Unfortunately for Deputy Chief Jaafar, this video exposes what really happened on 6:10 PM at the Dearborn Arab Festival. This reporter can assure you, Deputy Chief Jaafar, there will be an entire country outraged by the overall outcome of your willful and possibly criminal conduct exposed in Mr. Ruben Israel’s video.

Wayne County Sheriff Department (WCSD) Deputy Chief Jaafar, in the video, appears to be part of the top leadership controlling ground operations at the festival along with Ms. Ursula K. Henry, Director of Legal Affairs for the WCSD. Deputy Chief Jaafar is shown in the video consulting Ms. Henry on what to do with Mr. Ruben Israel. That is until Chief Jaafar lost his professionalism, got in Mr. Israel’s face and unloaded an emotional rhetorical barrage for the whole world to see.

It would take a psychiatrist to tell explain why Deputy Chief Jaafar snapped, but this is what led up to Jaafar’s emotional outburst. Chief Richardson said to Mr. Israel, “…your going to leave now”, Mr. Israel responded, “…we’re not going to do that.”

Deputy Chief Jaafar immediately got into the camera frame and said, “It’s not your call, we’ve been very gentle and very very respectful to you and you are jeopardizing public safety. And you need to understand it’s gone overboard. We don’t have the coverage to protect you and if we have two officers who can protect you it would work great but it’s impossible to do so. Your attracting a crowd and your affecting public safety, you need to understand that.” Chief Jaafar then told Chief Richardson to take over from here and left the scene rudely without listening to Mr. Israel’s response.

Deputy Chief Jaafar articulated the solution to the problem by saying that if he had two officers assigned to Mr. Israel’s group everything “would work great”. This reporter believes Chief Jaafar because he has special training in Executive Protection according to his bio. It is beyond belief that Chief Jaafar could not or would not, pull two officers out of all those officers standing around to protect Mr. Israel’s right of free speech without fear of bodily harm. This reporter believes there was criminal negligence on the part of Deputy Chief Jaafar and the WCSD because Mr. Israel and his friends were the victims of Assault and Battery, injuries were sustained, and Chief Jaafar did not intervene to protect the victims of a possible 3rd Degree Felony happening under his and Ms. Henry’s supervision. The WCSD has a duty to serve and protect.

Let’s see how the law defines Battery:

A battery is the willful or intentional touching of a person against that person’s will by another person, or by an object or substance put in motion by that other person. Such an offensive touching can constitute a battery even though it does not cause physical injury, and could not reasonably be expected to cause injury. A defendant who emphatically pokes the plaintiff in the chest with his index finger to emphasize a point may be culpable for battery (although the damages award that results may well be small or nominal). Similarly, a defendant who spits on a plaintiff has committed a battery, even where the only injury is to the plaintiff’s dignity.

The video clearly shows multiple counts of assault, battery, and aggravated battery were inflicted upon Mr. Israel and his friends by the crowd shouting Allahu Akbar.

Let’s see how the law defines Assault:

While references to “assault and battery” make it seem like the two acts are inseparable, within the context of personal injury law they are usually considered separate acts. An “assault” is an act which creates fear of an imminent battery. A “battery” is an unlawful, offensive touching.

Both assault and battery are intentional torts, meaning that the defendant actually intends cause harm to the plaintiff, be that the fear inspired by the assault or the offensive contact resulting from the battery. For a battery, there is no requirement that the victim suffer a physical injury. A battery may be indirect, caused by contact through a thrown stone, or spitting, and need not cause any harm beyond the contact itself in order to be actionable.

Based on the wounds inflicted on Mr. Israel’s forehead a case could be made for Aggravated Battery which is a Class 3 Felony. Otherwise according to Section 750.81 of the Michigan Penal Code simple battery is a misdemeanor punishable by no more than 93 days in jail or a $500 fine or both.

The result of the Wayne County Sheriff’s office failure to protect Mr. Israel and his friends safety exposes a deep and systemic problem inside the WCSD. The WCSD leaving Mr. Israel unprotected knowing violence would happen is criminal.

The bottom line is Mr. Ruben Israel and his friends were viciously attacked by an angry mob and the WCSD watched it happen. It is not the issue if you like or dislike Mr. Israel’s speech. Our Constitution protects free speech and our taxpayer funded law enforcement agencies are sworn to uphold the right of free speech for everyone equally. Mr. Israel caught everything on film from the minute they arrived until the minute they left and very soon I imagine the WCSD, Arab American Chamber of Commerce, and the Mayor of Dearborn will have to answer for their actions.

The basics of Executive Protection skills Deputy Chief Jaafar possess and with the number of uniforms on the ground, Mr. Ruben Israel’s group of street preachers at the 2012 Dearborn Arab International Festival should have been protected by law enforcement when they were under attack. This reporter will go further to say Deputy Chief Jaafar was negligent in his duties and allowed scores of Class 3 Felonies to occur under his direction and oversight.

In the video, Mr. Israel told Deputy Chief of Operations Dennis Richardson his attorney had sent a letter of their intentions to the WCSD and received no reply. Deputy Chief Richardson acknowledged Mr. Israel’s letter and that Mr. Israel and his group would be at the festival just as they were the previous year.

The Arab American Chamber of Commerce is one of the main sponsors of the event and is responsible for the cost of providing adequate security, comfort stations, and all the other details in putting on a citywide fair costing hundreds of thousands of dollars. In past events the City of Dearborn partnered with the Arab American Chamber in managing the Arab Festival.

The City of Dearborn / Arab Chamber of Commerce partnership resulted in the City of Dearborn loosing a 2010 freedom of speech lawsuit filed by George Saieg a Christian street preacher. This bigoted, hateful, and intolerance towards Christians shown by Dearborn Mayor John O’Reilly cost his city $100,000. The following year David Wood and his team were falsely arrested for breach of the peace. The Thomas More Law Center took David Wood’s case and won.

Dearborn, MI is a small town of around 100,000 people. People are asking, why is all this animosity and hate towards Christians manifesting itself in Dearborn. The answer may be in the fact Dearborn is 46% Muslim. Dearborn has the largest Muslim population of any city in America. It is up to the reader come to their own conclusions.

The multiple violent attacks on Mr. Ruben Israel and his friends was the most violent to date at the Arab Festival. The fact the violence by the predominately Muslim crowd against Christians was allowed to continue freely under the watchful eye of the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department is criminal. The WCSD, through their inaction in protecting Mr. Israel’s freedom of speech has sent a disturbing crystal clear message to the citizens of Dearborn that rioting and battery will be condoned by those entrusted to enforce the law. The message is that Dearborn Law enforcement will turn the other way when violence is inflicted on non-Muslims and that freedom of speech will be silenced in the no-go zone of Dearborn, MI.

On April 18, 2012 President Obama came to Dearborn and warmly introduced his friends Mayor John B. O’Reilly and Wayne County Sheriff Chief Benny Napoleon as providing the “change you can believe in.” Rarely seen in public the President referred to himself as President Barack “Hussein” Obama while emphasizing his middle name. Both the Mayor and Chief Napoleon the last two years have been knee deep in expensive and divisive free speech lawsuits pitting Muslims against Christians. Was the President sending a signal the escalating friction between Muslim and Non-Muslim in Dearborn is the change we can all believe in?

In the 1940 and 1950’s it was not uncommon to hear stories of small white controlled rural towns, about the size of Dearborn, allowing crimes against blacks and Jews to go unpunished and in some cases covered up. The Civil Rights movement righted those societal wrongs and those type of bigoted stories are a thing of the past.

Fast forward to 2012 In the City of Dearborn, MI, replace the blacks with Christians and the same bigotry and hatred of the 1950’s was on display at the 2012 Dearborn Arab American Festival by Deputy Chief Mike Jaafar who was “pleased with the overall outcome.

The Wayne County Sherrifs Department had their legal affairs Director Ms. Henry making decisions on the ground during the violent riots. The fact she was there at the same time Ruben Israel and his friends were there makes me very curious about what was in the letter Mr. Israel’s attorney sent to the WCSD.

Deputy Chief Mike Jaafar admitted on video tape that if he had two officers available to shadow Mr. Israel and his friends “everything would be OK” and he chose not to do it shows willful misconduct.

The State of Michigan needs to conduct a serious outside investigation into this violent attack and remove those individuals found responsible.

Imam Al-Qazwini needs to use his position as leader of the Dearborn Muslim community and get actively involved with the festival demanding peace and tolerance from his followers. Imam Al-Qazwini must teach peace and tolerance towards Christian street preachers no matter how provocative they may be.

Article VI of the U.S. Constitution states United States law shall be the supreme law of the land not Shariah compliant blasphemy laws. All eyes will be on the City of Dearborn between now and next years Dearborn Arab American International Festival. And this reporter would not be surprised if a lawsuit or two are in the City of Dearborn’s Future.

Yitzchak Shamir, Israel's 7th Prime Minister passed away at the age of 96 on Saturday.

Shamir who replaced Menachem Begin as PM when he resigned was a staunch protector of Israel throughout his life and continued as PM.

His history is an incredibel read and definitely recommended reading for history lovers and true patriots of their country.

He should be an example of honesty, sincerity, straight talking, humility and an uncorruptible force in a world of corruptible politicians. Wish there were many more like him.

Patriot, fighter, uncompromising Zionist: Yitzhak Shamir dies at 96

Israel mourns death of its seventh prime minister Yitzhak Shamir, who died Saturday • A former member of the Jewish underground and the Mossad, Shamir rose to become one of the longest-serving premiers and was widely credited for not dragging Israel into 1991 Gulf War and orchestrating massive Aliyah waves.

Israel's seventh prime minister, Yitzhak Shamir, passed away on Saturday at the age of 96. Shamir's coffin will lie in state at the Knesset plaza on Monday to allow Israelis to pay their last respects before the funeral procession commences later that day. Shamir, who suffered from Alzheimer's disease, will be buried in the plot reserved for the nation's leaders in Mt. Herzl National Cemetery in Jerusalem.

Shamir served intermittently as prime minister from 1983 to 1992 as the head of the Likud. Before entering politics, he worked at the Israeli spy agency, the Mossad, and was a member of the Revisionist underground movements Irgun and Lehi in pre-state Israel. Soon after his health began to fail in the early part of the last decade, he took residence at a Herzliya nursing home, where he stayed until his death. He is survived by two children, Gilada and Yair, and five grandchildren.

Shamir's daughter, Gilada Shamir-Diamant told Army Radio Sunday that his death was not unexpected. "I could hug him, even though we were not able to communicate so well," she said. "He would sometime take my hand and place it next to his heart; sometimes he would have this twinkle in his eye, which made me think he was aware of what was taking place around him."

Michal Diamant, Shamir's granddaughter, told Army Radio she "admired him." She also recalled the many hours she spent with him. "The more I got to know him the more I appreciated this man and his unique personality. Unlike his image of a man who had a spine of steel, he was a very warm and loving person, particularly over the past several years." She added that when she asked him if Israel has nuclear weapon capabilities, he said he didn't know. "He didn't like talking politics."

Soon after news broke of Shamir's passing, Israeli leaders eulogized the former premier. President Shimon Peres, who was Shamir's political archenemy and his senior partner in two national unity governments, said that Shamir was "a brave fighter both before and after the founding of the state; he fought with courage against the British Mandate in the era of the underground movements and his great contribution at the Mossad will forever be etched in our nation's history that tells the story of brave individuals. He was true to his convictions, a great patriot that loved his people and Israel, who served his state with honor and dedication for dozens of years."

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu echoed Peres, releasing a statement that reflected great sorrow. "Yitzhak Shamir belonged to the generation of giants that established the State of Israel and fought for the freedom of the Jewish People in its Land. Shamir led the State of Israel out of an abiding loyalty to the people and the land. Shamir, who lost his family in the Holocaust, fought in the Lehi [a right-wing underground group] and as prime minister worked to strengthen the security of the State of Israel and ensure its future; the citizens of the country were always his first and foremost concern. At Sunday's weekly cabinet session the government observed a moment of silence in memory of Shamir. The prime minister told ministers that Shamir "who did not exude charisma, simply had an inner charisma, which I believe is the most important thing." Netanyahu went on to say that the people of Israel have lost "one of the strongest leaders in our history." Referring to Shamir's controversial statement - "The sea is the same sea and the Arabs are the same Arabs," implying that just like the sea doesn't change, the Arabs would never accept Israel and make peace with it - Netanyahu said Shamir "may have been criticized back then, but today we know that he did not tailor his inner truth according to the latest trends in public opinion; people now know that these were well-thought out words that carried a-lot of meaning; today we bid farewell to one of our most fiercest defenders."

Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin said that "Shamir was an ideologue who knew how to stand his ground — be it small or grave matters — but he could also be pragmatic. His ability to exercise forbearance in the face of missile attacks during the Gulf War [in 1991] was a testament to the very levelheaded personality he had; he had Israel's security at heart more than anything else."

Deputy Prime Minister and Intelligence and Atomic Energy Minister MK Dan Meridor, who served as Justice Minister under Shamir, said that "without any doubt he always acted with great purpose; in 1991 he displayed an amazing ability to show restraint by refusing to attack Iraq [in response to Scud missile attacks]; he then presided over talks with Syria and fought against the U.S. decision to declare the Soviet Jews as a having no national home. Shamir made it clear back then that every Jew should come to Israel, and riled against Jewish organizations in the U.S. I remember once when he took issue with then-U.S. Secretary of State George Shultz, who told him, 'Since 1948 there are no nationless Jews.' This is a small story that says a lot about Shamir."

Minister of Defense Ehud Barak said that Shamir "was resilient like a granite rock who would did not take his eye off the ball and would not compromise; he always asked himself what is right for the People of Israel and how they will be best served."

Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said that "Yitzhak Shamir was a man of the Land of Israel in every bit of his body; he always stuck to his guns regardless of the capacity in which he served, and was a man of principles that served as an example."

Opposition leader MK Shelly Yachimovich (Labor) said that "Shamir was a determined prime minister who dedicated his life to the state and while remaining true to his ideological world view, with integrity, modesty and with a layman's way of life, the way a leader should behave. The citizens of Israel will forever remember the wisdom displayed during the first Gulf War, when despite his hawkish views, he showed restraint and exercised forbearance by avoiding a pointless entanglement in a war."

Journalist Yosef "Yossi" Ahimeir, who was Shamir's right-hand man between 1984 and 1992, said Saturday that "he was, above all, a man of principles who put his money where his mouth is; there was no other leader who loved the Jewish people more than he did; he was willing to accept a peace deal where the two sides exchange peace for peace; he was willing to accept tactical compromises but not ideological ones."

Education Minister Gideon Sa'ar said that "Yitzhak Shamir was made of steel, who had great inner strength that made him stand tall in the defense of the People of Israel and the Land of Israel."

A White House statement said “Yitzhak Shamir dedicated his life to the State of Israel. From his days working for Israel’s independence to his service as prime minister, he strengthened Israel’s security and advanced the partnership between the United States and Israel. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and the people of Israel.”

After he retired from politics, he was asked how he would have liked to be remembered. His response, in what combined his two core traits throughout his life, was — as a man who loved the Land of Israel and had great modesty. "If history remembers me at all, I hope it will remember me as someone who loved the Land of Israel and stood on guard in its defense all his life, in every possible way."

Shamir, born Yitzhak Jaziernicki, was born to observant parents in 1915 in Ruzhany (a Polish town that is now part of Belarus). His parents were Zionists and sent him to the Hebrew Gymansium, or college preparatory school, in Bialystok, Poland. Upon turning 14, he joined Beitar, a Zionist youth movement that espoused the nationalist views of Revisionist leader Ze'ev Jabotinsky. In 1935, while studying law in Warsaw, he decided to emigrate to British-controlled Palestine, where he enrolled at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.

In 1937 he joined the Irgun, the nationalist right wing underground movement, and later, in 1940, became a founder of one of its splinter groups, the Lehi, or Stern Gang. When the group's leader Avraham "Yair" Stern was killed by the British authorities in 1942, he became one of the group's three top members. He was arrested twice in 1940 by the British, and in both cases managed to escape. The second time was from a detention facility in Eritrea.

Between 1955 and 1965 Shamir served as a senior Mossad official. He entered politics in 1970, when he became a top politico at the Herut party apparatus, the precursor to today's Likud. Four years later he was elected to the Knesset. In 1977 he was appointed Knesset Speaker and three years later, upon the resignation of Moshe Dayan, he was tapped by Prime Minister Menachem Begin to be his foreign minister.

When Begin resigned in 1983, Shamir took the reigns of government for 11 months until elections, in what eventually became an on-and-off premiership spanning six and a half years. In the wake of the 1984 elections, neither the Left nor the Right could form a governing coalition. Consequently, Labor and Likud signed a unique power-sharing rotation agreement that had then-Labor leader Peres and Shamir each serve as prime minister for half a term, or two years, and as foreign minister while the other was in power.

After the 1988 elections Shamir formed a short-lived national unity government. In 1990, Peres, as head of Labor, orchestrated a successful no-confidence vote after which he was tasked with forming an alternative coalition (known as "the Stinking Maneuver"). Eventually Shamir frustrated Peres' efforts and established a new narrow right-wing government that lasted until the 1992 elections.

Shamir's public image owes much to his handling of the Gulf War crisis in 1991, which had a lasting effect on his political career. During the Persian Gulf War in January, Shamir overruled those in his government who wanted to strike Iraq after Israeli population centers were hit with Scud missiles. This decision won Shamir tremendous respect among U.S. policy makers at the time. Later that year he decided to take part in the Madrid Conference, sending Israeli negotiators to peace talks with Syrian and Lebanese delegations, as well as with a joint Jordanian-Palestinian delegation. The Tehiya, Tzomet and Moledet parties left the coalition to protest the talks. This precipitated early elections in which Labor trounced Shamir's Likud party.

As prime minister, Shamir presided over one of the largest waves of Jewish immigration, or aliyah. The biggest endeavor involved the absorption of hundreds of thousands of Soviet Jews who had been allowed to emigrate by the communist regime. Shamir even encouraged Washington policymakers to make Jews go through many hoops before they could arrive in the U.S., hoping that such red tape would have them choose Israel instead. Shamir also launched Operation Solomon, in which 14,400 Ethiopian Jews were airlifted into Israel. Shamir won the Israel Prize for lifetime achievement and contribution to the state in 2001.

Last week Yitzhak Shamir passed away at the age of 96. One of his many positive attributes were his ethics and principals. Most of his life he served the people and country he so loved in different positions and duties. In all he protected and fought for Israel and the Jewish people.

The Latmah team is on a short summer break but they are also preparing for the next season. They made the short video below in honor of Yitzhak Shamir. Patriot and honorable man who never for a moment lost his sense of duty and the principals that were his trade mark throughout his life.
