The Green and Golden Way
©Nick Grimshawe
There was a man in the footsteps of a Lady,
Around him the air was thick with lies,
So thick in fact, they stung his eyes.
He had no grace as did the Lady,
But in his heart woke hope
All he had to do was speak
The story of his curse
Let her hear his black desire
Of dancing with the night.
Into the cold clean air,
“Listen Lady to my Story,
My sin is something rare,
Forgive me for my boldness
But this story you should hear.”
“On a cloudless day,
I turned away my face from seeing,
The green and golden way,
And trod a path in shadows
To hide my soul away”
“I kept my light from shining
With all the other stars
And by that much I diminished
The sacred store of light”
He trod in her footsteps hopelessly,
Until she turned her head to him:
Out came her hand from scarlet robes,
To take in hers, his hand.
“Your light is not diminished by the shadows,
No darkness can steal your flame
And hiding from you sorrows has no blame”
“But you must fling away you cloth of darkness
And show me all you fear,
And trust to love your bounty
For all that happen near.
She step with warmth toward him,
“Let go your hesitation,
Let go the shadows of your heart
I see the sun is rising,
And light has conquered night.”
He moved to embrace her,
But put his arms around a sun,
The explosion that came following
Rocked the cosmos to the core,
And rained a thousand suns,
Upon the worlds and more.
That all could see most clearly
The forgiveness in his sin,
And see his hope so dearly
Lead back toward the passage
On the Green and Golden way.
