Obama Sends Combat Troops to Iraq

It’s déjà vu all over again.

Three years after U. S. troops had withdrawn from Iraq, finally ending America’s war and occupation (2003-2011) of that benighted country, our soldiers will be sent there again.

Monday evening, June 16, 2014, after a weekend of golfing and political fundraising in California, President Lucifer declared, in a letter to Congress, that U.S. ground troops “equipped for combat” are being sent to Iraq.

The troops’ “only purpose” is to protect US personnel and the US Embassy in Baghdadfrom the ISIS militants — and not join in the fierce fighting raging outside the Iraqi capital. Blah. Blah. Blah.

In so doing, Obama directly reversed what he had said merely 3 days befpre. Last Friday, he clearly said that while the U.S. will “do our part” to help, no troops will be sent to Iraq.

ISIS or the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria is an extremist Sunni jihadist group that aspires to create a caliphate — a theocratic pan-Islamic state — in the New Levant of Iraq, Syria, southern Turkey, Cyprus, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, and Israel. (See “ISIS: the savage jihadists laying waste to Iraq“)

New LevantAbout 160 American soldiers are already in Iraq, including 50 Marines and more than 100 Army soldiers. Some of those soldiers have only recently arrived. Under tonight’s authorization, the U.S. will put an additional 100 soldiers in a nearby third country where they would be held in reserve until needed.

The POS did not give a deadline for the troops’ exit, only that the 275 soldiers will remainin Iraq for as long as they are needed to protect US interests. The White House says the U.S. military personnel are entering Iraq with its government’s consent.

Meanwhile, Secretary of State John “snake-tongue” Kerry says Washington is “open to discussions” with Tehran about military cooperation. Iran has hinted that it is prepared to cooperate with the United States, whom Iran has called the Great Satan, to shore up the beleaguered Iraqi government against the savage ISIS jihadists. Iran already has sent 2,000 advance troops to Iraq.

Kerry also said U.S. unilateral air and drone strikes against the ISIS “may well be” an option.

Last Saturday, June 14, U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel ordered an aircraft carrier moved into the Persian Gulf.

Monday, unnamed Obama administration officials with access to the latest U.S. intelligence on Iraq told Fox News it “appears likely/probable” that ISIS militants got hold of U.S.-made Stinger missiles from Iraqi army bases they have taken over in recent days. The Stinger missile is a shoulder-fired surface-to-air weapon that is used against aircraft.

Iraqi intelligence officials said ISIS fighters managed to take control of two big weapons depots late last week holding some 400,000 items, including AK-47 rifles, rockets and rocket-propelled grenades, artillery shells and mortars. A quarter of the stockpiles were quickly sent to Syria in order to help ISIS militants there.

According to a report from the West Point Combating Terrorism Center, the ISIS “now possesses scores of Iraqi military equipment originally provided by the United States, from Humvees and cargo vehicles to small arms.”

In addition, after taking over Mosul, the second most populous city in Iraq, ISIS is now the richest terror group in the world from looting US$429 million and a large quantity of gold bullion from Mosul’s central bank.

Rush Limbaugh is skeptical of the sudden capture of a highly-visible suspect in the 2012 Benghazi terror attack, calling it an “amazing, timely coincidence” that he was snatched from Libya just when President Obama desperately needs a foreign policy victory.

Limbaugh spoke Monday afternoon about the capture of Ahmed Abu Khattala, a Libyan suspected of orchestrating the September 2012 attack on U.S. diplomats in Benghazi that resulted in the death of Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans.

“The news media going berserk,” he began. “Isn’t it an amazing, timely coincidence here that they have found a militia leader of the Benghazi attack and they’ve arrested him? Isn’t this AMAZING timing?”

Khattala, an alleged Islamist militia leader with ties to a number of terrorist groups, has hardly been in hiding, speaking to journalists and openly traipsing around Benghazi hotels. Fox News reported Tuesday afternoon that the U.S. government has been monitoring Khattala for some time.

“Now all of a sudden we’ve got the militia leader,” Limbaugh mused. “I thought it was just a ragtag bunch of protestors that got all fired up after this video hit the Internet.”

“But now — of course, nobody’s questioning that,” he continued. “Maybe others will, but I mean, it’s quite obvious that this is a VERY TIMELY HEADLINE, giving how things are falling apart in Iraq.”

“Isn’t it fortunate that President Obama get a headline using the U.S. military when he really needs one?” Limbaugh said. “And it is his military. It’s his government, it’s his IRS, that’s the way he talks. Now when they all get in trouble he has nothing to do with them. But they are his.”

“So what I’m now waiting for — I’m waiting for FBI special forces to capture Lois Lerner’s missing emails,” Limbaugh snarked. “Of course that’s not a headline Obama wants, so that’s probably not going to happen.”

Parwanrelease

First it was the five top Taliban commanders traded for the traitor Bowe Bergdahl. Now this. The traitor in the White House seems determined to endanger Americans by releasing as many jihadis as he can. It’s no wonder that these releases were not publicly announced.

But no worries: the Pakistanis say they’ll monitor these jihadis to make sure they don’t have any “militant ties.” That’s right: the pro-jihad Pakistani government will make sure that everything is fine.

Obama finger

“US Quietly Moves Detainees Out Of Secretive Afghanistan Prison,” Reuters, June 13 2014:

(Reuters) – The Obama administration has quietly repatriated a dozen detainees from a small U.S. military prison in Afghanistan, moving a modest step closer toward winding down the United States’ controversial post-9/11 detainee system.

President Barack Obama, in a letter to Congress released on Thursday, informed U.S. lawmakers that about 38 non-Afghan prisoners remained at the Parwan detention center outside of Kabul, down from around 50 a few months ago.

A U.S. defense official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that a Frenchman, a Kuwaiti and 10 Pakistani prisoners were sent back to their respective home countries at the end of May.

The remaining detainees include Yemeni, Tunisian and more Pakistani nationals, and a Russian who the United States is also considering trying in a military or civilian court.

The transfers, which are not publicly disclosed, underscore the challenges the Obama administration faces in shutting down Parwan and the larger U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, which has been widely criticized by human rights groups since being populated in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.

Many of the detainees have not been charged with a crime, but the release of any military detainees has the potential to intensify the political backlash the Obama administration is facing over its handling of suspected militants captured in Afghanistan and elsewhere since 2001.

White House officials have sought to rebuff criticism of the decision last month to send five senior Taliban prisoners held at Guantanamo Bay to Qatar in exchange for Bowe Bergdahl, a U.S. soldier held by Taliban-linked militants in Pakistan.

The Obama administration is slowly moving to transfer some inmates out of Guantanamo Bay, where about 150 inmates remain. Obama has renewed promises to close the prison despite long-standing congressional opposition.

The non-Afghan prisoners at Parwan are the only detainees remaining in U.S. custody in Afghanistan after U.S. officials shifted hundreds of Afghan prisoners to Afghan government custody last year.

In February, U.S. officials were outraged when the government of Afghan President Hamid Karzai released 65 of those prisoners, who Washington insisted were dangerous militants requiring at least further investigation.

The U.S. government considers some remaining non-Afghan prisoners at Parwan, like some at Guantanamo, too dangerous to be freed. Some of them have unclear links to the Afghan conflict, including a Yemeni arrested in Bangkok and secretly moved to Afghanistan.

The Parwan detainees’ identities, and the transfer of some of them to other countries in the past, have remained largely a mystery to the public in the United States and Afghanistan.

Last month, the Defense Department provided U.S. lawmakers with a classified report on the identities of the detainees and their alleged militant ties.

Their fate takes on new importance as the end of the U.S. and NATO military mission in Afghanistan approaches. If the two countries can finalize a troop deal, Obama plans to leave just under 10,000 soldiers in Afghanistan after 2014 and withdraw almost all by the end of 2016.

It is unclear under what circumstances the prisoners transferred last month were repatriated.

Pakistani officials have said that returned detainees would be kept under surveillance to make sure they had no militant links. Prisoner advocates say at least some returned detainees were held in secret prisons in Pakistan before being set free.

ISIS Say They’d Leave Iraq if Obama Leaves White House

1280px-Iraqi_insurgents_with_gunsRadical Islamic terrorist group ISIS released a video on Tuesday, claiming they would withdraw their forces from Iraq on the sole condition that President Barack Obama resign, be impeached, or otherwise permanently leave the White House.

ISIS advanced to within 40 miles of Baghdad on Tuesday during their southerly invasion of the country. The group was recently labeled by famed terrorist group Al Qaeda to be too radical for their tastes.

In a grainy, 27-minute VHS video sent to the US Consulate in Baghdad, an unidentified ISIS member demands that Barack Obama be removed from power. “Obama, the cowardly apostate who refuses his Muslim lineage, must no longer lead the godless American infidels and must leave the White House immediately,” the terrorist proclaims. “Until our demands are met we will continue our reign of terror in Iraq. Death to the infidels! Death to America!”

ISIS’ demands were repeated by two captured Iraqi soldiers, moments before they were both beheaded. A third man, whom ISIS claims is an American contractor, though the US State Department identifies him as Canadian, was brutalized with a hammer and spit on, but not executed. The demands were chanted several more times, with veiled terrorists yelling “Death to America!” and “Obama out of office!” repeatedly until the tape abruptly stops.

The State Department has not yet responded to ISIS’ demands, and no one from the White House would comment on the story. But Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) was quick to criticize the Obama Administration on Tuesday, saying “I think it shows cowardice and an utter lack of respect for the diplomatic process that our lackluster president refuses to sit down like a grown up and consider what ISIS is asking for. If he isn’t willing to negotiate here for the betterment of the country, maybe the Senate should.”

Senator John McCain also commented on the tape Tuesday afternoon. “Look, there’s a fine line you need to walk when dealing with foreign relations. Obama doesn’t see it, but it’s there. I don’t think they’re asking for anything too unreasonable here, and if it saves Iraqi lives, then we should at least sit down to consider our options. Obama got us into this mess by withdrawing our forces from Iraq too early. He’s incompetent militarily, and we need to make sure he isn’t incompetent diplomatically as well.”
