Hi Pauline.  Spamming is not only hitting our forums but also the PHOTO GALLERY.

Smappers have been hitting the AdlandPro photo galleries.  I've removed hundreds of SPAMS from the comments associating with my pictures over the past months.

This morning I removes 93 spams from 4 pictures.

I think any forum that is moderated should still be able to be nominated and even be awarded BEST FORUM.  The fact that the forum is moderated does NOT make it a less than wonderful forum.  I'm surprised anyone would even suggest that.

Just my opinion, Pat

Good Morning Pauline:

While the judge in question has a point, I would point out that as in any community on line and offline, there are rules and regulations.  If any one person is not respecting the persons forum or the community in general and that can be proven, then if after warnings are given and everyone has done everything they can to correct the behaviour, then yes a person should be removed or posts deleted.

When judging a contest, the rules and regulations are usually more strict..or am I wrong here?

Not sure if that helped at all, but thanks Pauline for this discussion

Hello Pauline,

This is a great question and personally I believe a moderated forum destroys the true community spirit.

By using spammers as an excuse is just that a poor excuse.  In some of the moderated forums it seems that moderation is used as a tool to keep someones post count up.  A forum listed as community related and moderated assumes that we are all spammers.

Have come to the point in this community that we are guilty till proven otherwise?

Personally I have no problems with spam in my forums because I DO NOT TOLERATE IT and enforce the rules of my forum.

Spam is a very poor excuse to moderate a forum, when we have the controls to address them.  If you are overrun by spammers perhaps you should use the REPORT ABUSE link.  This works great!

If you have spammers ban them, report them but don't make everyone suffer for the few that are uncouth.

Using moderation to keep ones post count up seems to be the norm.  Why even allow replies to posts if you are so paranoid that you may receive a spammer on occasion.

Most so called spammers are new and need an education.  So warn them, educate them and if they continue ban them.

Thanks for asking.

May Wisdom and the knowledge you gained go with you,
