Good discussion! I think most of us 'moderate' our forums in one way or another. I tend to agree with the idea that if rules are set out and ignored, the offender needs to be steered to the correct course of action.
I, like Jim and John and Rose, let people know in clear terms why their post is deleted and guide them to a more appropriate thread or forum. Continuous problem posters get banned.
It takes too much of my time to pre-screen all the posts! And I haven't had much of a problem with spammers in my forum (now just wait - I jinxed myself!).
Don't we all live in a 'moderated' world? Even with free speech and other civil rights, we do have to 'moderate' our behavior in some ways, right? So why can't we, as peers, set our boundaries without being accused of ruining the 'open forum' ideal?
