This may not be political but it is my views
I have never quite forgiven myself for not speaking up when the movies began using fowl language.
Let me explain....
I took my 8 year old daughter to what appeared to be a kid's movie called "The Day of the Dolphin". During the movie they used words like "hell" and "damn". Maybe these words are not all that bad but one thing led to another and now it is common to hear vile and filth any time of day ...because no one spoke up. There was a time when you would not have heard even the mildest of swear words even in the middle of the night and we never had to worry about seeing porn.
I knew we should walk out of there but we stayed. What's worse, I never said a word, probably thinking it would do no good. I had many other opportunities to speak up about bad scenes shown on TV and I did not.
The point is now what we see on TV is disgusting on prime time television and our children are watching it. No matter how open-minded a person is, I often hear people say "I wouldn't want to be raising a child today." The values of old days and things we might now call old fashioned, must not have been all that bad for people to make those remarks.
Now I speak up. What bothers me about that is that there are many people who now look to me to speak up and speak for them because they are too cowardly to say anything or even to support me.
