Re: Rules Kids Won't Learn in School 5.3.06

Hello Larry: That is so sad! A prime example of life not being fair. The parents have to take the flack when the kids don't get their way. I am not adverse to telling my kids NO, but when I do, man do I get the MOUTH! Along with the temper tantrums. When I was growing up, if I acted the way my kids do today, yes, I got beaten! I didn't dare act out! Fortunately, I am not a child beater, I love my kids, but sometimes it is a love-hate relationship. The sad part is, my 5 year-old daughter is picking up on his attitude, and I am constantly having to try to set her straight. At least, it isn't too late for her, I hope! Sometimes, the discipline methods the 'experts' suggest, I think leave something to be desired. I can only hope and pray that my son has heard and comprehended some of what I am trying to get across to him, before he ends up in trouble. Thanks, Larry

I wonder where the kids got their attitude from in the first place? They are bombarded with so many different standards, from all quarters it confuses most of us, let alone them. Even the work ethics have been eroded and many companies have had to fold so there are less employment opportunities. Also after you have studied for years for a doctrate or diploma , there is no guarantee that you'll find a job, as they say you are over qualified. So you end up working in a packing factory to make ends meet and all your education disappears down the black hole of despair and what if's. They don't teach you that at school either. I wonder what the next generation will be like :-)

Dear Larry, Hopefully I have taught my kids that life is what you make of it, not what happens to you. They are both on the verge of starting their own lives--my son is moving out this weekend. Yes, I'm sad and going through empty nest syndrome. I'm also waking up and saying, you know what? It's time for me to start living mine again! Whoohoo! Get ready for the ride! And, no, I refuse to believe that I am too old to pursue my dreams. Take Care,

1. Anyone who has actually paid attention knows that ALL older generations say the same types of things about the younger generation. 2. Those who thinks todays young are so cluless needs to read of all the heroic things our service people (many of whom are under 20) are doing. 4. Shannon, hate to break it to you, only in my view of life and being 71, thou art still rather young.
