Hi Roger,

This gentleman is different, which is good. Not real sure of what I think at this point, however I do like the market one the best. It looks like he has to get in the picture all that he can. Or is this the way things were when he painted them.

Hi Myrna,

This is an interesting gentleman who was born at the end of the 1800's.

Photography suddenly posed a big challenge to artists, who had until then found different ways to portray reality in figures and landscapes. The ability to place many items into one picture that were not nescessarily there at the time the picture was composed were important. The need to portray people exactly correctly was no longer the most important thing.

I love this man's work because he packs in so much observed information. He specialised in groups and used this to bring colour and feeling to his work.

Don't think for a minute that he couldn't paint. He could. Here are examples of his previous work. Also a couple of different drawings. All very different.

Good morning Roger! What a blessing to start a hot August Monday morning with one such interesting and an artist yet unknown to me! Thanks for keeping me back to the track of the things which ennoble me!

Oil painting on canvas by William Patrick Roberts

Oil painting on canvas by William Patrick Roberts

Title The Wash/ The Miners Toilet
Artist Roberts, William Patrick (1895-1980)
Origin British
Date 20th century
Medium oil
Material canvas
Subject Fine Art
Ref. No 1940.4.18
Copyrights Bolton Council

I like this colorit, which I see as being a functional language of this semi-abstract interpretation of the ordinary human life. Very interesting and thought provoking.
I'd search for more.

Regards,
Branka

Myrna,

This is great.

It's just what art is about.

Every serious artist wants to produce stuff that they love or others do. Finding a corner that you are good in is wonderful. Robert's had a skill in producing the human spirit in a particular way
