Mentoring, Coaching, Team Work & Success

Hello Friends.

I've been giving this concept a lot of thought lately. More so then usual since I've been watching and studying different "models" in order to decide if what I am doing and have been doing for many years is the correct way to go about working with my down line, team mates and associates.

First of all I'd like to clarify one very important aspect of my philosophy. We are all on a continuous learning curve regardless of our experience and knowledge in our field of endeavors. Without the input of all the new technologies and systems we will eventually come to a stand still and not see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Over the years I've had different Mentors at different times in my life. Each one covered varied topics and subjects and from each I learned and added to my arsenal of knowledge and based my actions according to what I accumulated and learned from them. With most of my Mentors I approached them and asked to learn from their experience and knowledge. In 2 instances I met 2 individuals that wanted to take me under their wing for reasons that I was never able to understand but was very happy they did.

One thing I learned early on was that when you seek the advice/training from a mentor/coach you do what they say, teach and advise in order to reap the benefits of their knowledge and experience. There is plenty of time later on to formulate your own strategies with all the "experience" and knowledge you've acquired. Other wise you are wasting his/her time and your own.

As the years passed I was able to do for others what they did for me. BUT, till this day when I need information, to learn new things, systems etc., I'll look for the best qualified person to assist me. As I said earlier, we are on a constant learning curve that never stops.

I've always been a conservative and stable person. I never jumped from one thing to another. I took a program and/or business and worked with it on a steady basis. I never believed in jumping from one opportunity to another even if the short term gains are substantial. I believed and believe that in the long term sticking with a few good programs is more profitable in the long term.

Therefore team work is the basis of all the businesses I've been involved in. I found that by being a team player and helping my team mates in the long term they benefit and I benefit. I've always been against the high fliers that have big followings and jump from one business to another making the fast buck and then moving on. They benefit from their followers and the followers end up losing time after time cos their "leader" is gone. I call these people "hit & runners". Here today and gone tomorrow.

Team work involves just that; working together, complimenting each other. Every one has strengths and weaknesses and as a team we can avoid the pitfalls of ones mistakes cos there is a combination of minds working together. There is no one giving out orders to the others (even though there has to be a leader) and watching all the ants work. This is a combined effort that enables us to get the most out of the program involved. There will always be slow starters or "newbie's" that need more guidance then others but the day will come when they will be independent and contribute as do the others.

In a team there is no one or group that is in control of the others actions and efforts. I call this the "commissar" effect. Where a group of managers and the "ultimate leader" decides for others if they are pulling their weight or not; and if not according to them out you go. The concept of a team is that all are equal and with the "commissars" there are some that are "more equal" then others. Living in Israel I have first hand experience with groups/ collectives like these. Many of you are aware of the "kibbutz". In a kibbutz everyone is supposed to be equal to the other members but in actual fact the managers or "commissars" are more equal then the others. Well in the early days of the kibbutz it was a beautiful concept and was supported by the government since most of them were the first line of defense on the borders of Israel. Over the years though they became a burden since they were never self supporting and the government ended up supporting them. Slowly they started to change (even the most socialistic of the kibbutzim) and low and behold these bastions of socialism and even communism turned to the very dirty word of "capitalism". They received less from the government and started to become self sufficient. BUT, the commissars of old were still in being. Just as they received the lions share in the past with the new system they carried on getting more or even stealing and absconding with monies.

One of the main reasons for the failure of the kibbutz/collective concept was (and is) the common goal and ownership of properties. The infighting became rampant and once close friends became enemies. Or, if it didn't happen in the first generation (cos of their idealism) it happened in the second and third generations. Well we all know what happened to communism (except in China and there it's a question of rule by fear). It collapsed for many of the same reasons as the kibbutz. Every one was equal except for those that were more equal and while the masses lived in small apartments the "commissars" lived in their dachas, had cars, speed boats and MONEY. It was an "all for one and one for one" system.

I have strayed a bit here but I did so to explain my idea and concept of a team. Equals working together (owning their share of the business) and helping each other and those that are in the learning process.

I'll give you an example. One of the programs I'm involved in has a concept that in order to earn residual income you only have to have 2 personal referrals (2x2x2x....). We as a team help those that haven't got their 2 get it. If they can't do it on their own we transfer new referrals of ours to them in order to enable them to start earning residual income. The bottom line is that this helps the team as a whole but the members that haven't got their 2 yet are now on the "map" and see that it can be done and their efforts are much more fruitful.

No commissars here, no "all are equal but some are more equal" in our team. All are equal. The success of one is the success of the other. It's all a question of attitude and my motto is "the right attitude is the avenue to success".

Well I hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it.

All the best & Shalom,

Peter, Time and technical restraints stop me from discussing your posting in depth, however, the spirit of what you say is 99% aligned to what I believe to be the basis of co-operation and teamwork within online business. I had a dream. I still have a dream which when my technical issues are resolved will again blossom into a possible glorious fruition. Yiu may have seen my forum The Glacial Movement a few months ago. My dream is to shepherd all of those IT ignorant but interested prospects (those guys who will spend all day clicking on ads for pennies) along with the best website/capture page specialists, the investors and the gurus into one coallesed business where everybody's skills, both on and offline, could be used for the common good. I know it is possible because I have organised such a project offline in another arena. As you pointed out, the little guy is so often treated like "cannon fodder" which eventually does no-one a favour. My dreamwill happen. Until then I watch your progress and hard work with some envy. One day soon I shall rise and show everbody the real me and not the me that is controlled by outside restraints, and, to date, issues beyond my direct control.Your good friend Roger

Hi Peter,
your insights and wisdom are always appreciated by me. I  learn something new each time I read something you have written or speak with you personally.

You are very fortunate to have found such a program that actually helps the new comer be successful I have not been able to find any such program to date.

I like the team concept when the playing ground is level and each member is truly helped to achieve their goals. That is unique.

For me personally I need  a product or service I believe in, that I have not found either to date. The products are over priced and the service is usually found sorely lacking on some level.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this subject. Team work takes team effort to be a success it is very hard to find that many like minded individuals willing to work with others for the common good of all. I am happy that you have.

Mozel tov ( I hope I spelled that correctly)

Shalom

Geketa

Hi Peter et el who might be reading this.

Sorry to be so long but I want to respond with about 4 points.

>>Always on a learning curve is exactly correct.  Some are here in Adlandpro to sell, sell, sell, promote, and sell.  When it does not happen they leave.  For those who are here to learn, they hang around here, sharing ideas and learning from others.  Watch what you do in any community as others are watching to see what type of leader you are exposing in your participation.

I see fondly remember my first mentors, grade school teachers, parents and Sunday school teachers.  The impressions that made on my life will always be present.  Now on the other end of the spectrum, senior life I still learn so much each day.  Experiences, grandchildren, business assoicates, etc. all influence my thinking.

>>Finding and following good leaders is not as easy as we think.  Leaders come and go, change their attitude, step on people, lose their leadership positions.  We see it all the time here in Adlandpro, in politics, in social settings, family settings etc.  One can appear to be a good leader but lead the whole pack astray.  Anyone like to admit how much money they lost following would be leaders? Let's not talk about the 80's and the stockmarket!!!! Hey  I was following the advice of good people. Where are those programs where everyone bragged about all the money they just made as broadcast via ads in our community.

>>The Kibbutz Concept---I say it is impossible to be equal.  The concept is great---"All for one and one for all" but it is not so.  A leader or would be leader always emerges as this is just the way we humans are. When a person can't conform to the rules they leave.

>>Teamwork--this also is a great concept and I wish it could always be so.  However, human nature gets in our way when someone does not pull their share of the work load.  Sad to say, but I had a downline of over a thousand in a program where I was  involved.  When the program went live, no one (well just a couple) actually bought into the business.  If everyone does what is expected one could build a great business.  The truth is that only 3% to 6% will probably work the system. So what happens? It all crashes.

I realize that your post here is in conjunction with the program that you are promoting.  This is in no way an attack on the program. As I stated in a private personal message to you, the amount of money promised mis-leads people into believing that they can/will make that amount.  People do not join programs they join under YOU.  If they can't be the leader you are, they will never achieve that amount of money and blame you and the program.

I look forward to hearing that you have filled the matirx and achieve what is promised, but I wouldn't bet my retirement income on it.

Hi Roger,

Thanks for your feedback on this topic, much appreciated.

The beautiful thing is that when you have a plan and goals to achieve even though there might be difficulties in bringing it to fruition in the time span you would like there is something to look forward to.

I have no doubt that your project will come to life and I will happily take part in it when you overcome your technical difficulties.

Shalom,

Peter
