Amazing responses. It is impossible to have a business that don't sell in, even charities sell the idea that good will will benefit mankind.

Hi Ken, Sorry to join this parade so late. Without doing any recruiting or selling it's difficult,as most businesses can not be run with such a passive promotion scheme. A lot of my problems stem from this fact, beleive it or not, that my background is more in marketing and promotions, not selling! A lot of people view these three as the same, but even though they are closely related, the purposes are slightly different. Certainly promotions and selling are closer in some cases (I was involved in credit card and department store card promotions) and, certainly marketing's main focus is supporting sales. Interesting comments on everyone is involved in a business. I currently work in a university environment, and a lot of the professors overlook this fact, that we need to promote the school through our students and other young people (and parents of course, who often foot the costs, not many scholarships in Japan).

Hello Kenneth, Please forgive my last response, it was a bit silly on my part. When you have a business you have to be selling a good or a service. Everything comes under those two catagories its pure economics. Business is referring on is doing a trade, profession or trade. How are you going to make money if you do not sell something or get downline to sell something for you with this strategy of thinking? Most of us in the Internet Marketing have a url, we need to get persons to buy from that page or want to do the same system. We can maintain a management system and get others to promote it, that is still recruiting! Do you sell yourself? Do you sell a product? Do you do MLM? Do you do investments? Do you do trading? Do yo do affiliate marketing? They all work on this basis! Thats my two peneth or three. Still waiting to see what your going to teach me kenneth! Your awesome buddy. Come on teach me!!! Kenneth, please forgive a literal-minded reader for asking you to clarify your reply to the posts on your subject. Are you saying that although the subject line was completely illogical with regard to actually doing business, it still drew people in to read it? Were you teaching us about creating a hook that will make people curious enough to read a post or an email about our business? If so, I understand the concept. However, I struggle with the integrity issue, which seems a bit like bait and switch. I don't mean that YOU lack integrity--I get that you were using that as an illustration. Would you address how to create provocative subject lines that draw people in, and that don't promise them something they can't have? By the way, I spotted one other thing wrong that I didn't see in other posts. Anytime you make a statement followed immediately by the word 'but', you have negated the first statement. These nuances of language affect us on a subconcious level and make for many of the misunderstandings in our communications. Thanks for a great thread, Kenneth. I was so impressed by one long post that I copied it to Notepad for future reference. You have some fabulous readers! Cheri

Fantastic you bring this up Cheri. Yes, it is a tasteless baiting to use a subject line such as the example I used. Truly, I would not use that tactic as you stated. The bottom line is people are gullable and looking for the quick and easy way to do something. It shows by the number of people that came quickly to the subject thread. Some that have not been in other threads of education but they responded to this. Also the number of views without replies were pretty high as well. As for the "statement followed immediately by the word 'but'" - sometimes my mind flies so fast and the fingers can't keep up or my thoughts came and went. I usually will pull 20 hours a day working with all of my projects and teaching so it could be I am tired when I reply, too. But .... No I won't this time and thank you for pointing this out to me. It's a help. Kenneth
