Dear Dimitra,

Strange and funny!

From each window of student's hostel songs of Roberino sounded! I am not the big expert of music, but Robertino in Russia knew all! Such as Mireille Mathieu!

There was a greater censorship in Russia in relation to the western music, but Robertino has been resolved. Probably, because of a greater variety of opportunities then in your country you have not remembered this singer

Hi Lydia,

Mireille Mathieu was a favorite French singer in Greece. Many French singers were famous here, such as Charles Aznavour, Gilbert Becaud, Johny Halliday, Sylvie Vartan. I thing I stay in 60's and 70's but that time I had the opportunity to hear radio all day and knew a lot of singers and songs. After I got married I had no time to hear so I've lost some great singers of the 80's and 90's.

Our Greek singer, Vicky Leandros, was known in Russia?

Hi Dimitra!

Really great singer, Vicky Leandros!

I can not answer for all Russia, to me & Lydia she was unknown before.

Thanks for sharing.

And our Russian great singer Alla Pugacheva - is she known to You?

Alla Pugacheva - The Shakespeare Sonnet
It was one of the BIGGEST monster hits of the 70's and not only in Soviet Union.

Greetings from Russia, Nick

Hi Nick,

When I was a teenager and I knew more about favorite music in my country, no Russian singer was known and I understand the reason why Vicky Leandros was unknown to you too. Vicky was extremely famous in Germany, Belgium, France and Greece of course for many years and she had won at the Eurovision contest once or twice (I'm not sure about this).

Alla Pugacheva is great. Sorry I know nothing about her. In Greece there were known only Russian opera singers or ballet dancers. When I was about 16 I  watched an opera at Herodium Theater in Athens, Boris Goudounov (I don't know if I write it the right way!). Two great ballet dancers who I admired were Rudolf Nureyev and Mikhail Baryshnikov.

Best regards,

Dimitra
