A Christmas Poem
12/15/2007 7:23:15 AM

          Christmas Day

Waking up early on a cold winter morning

looking out the window at all the snow,

Watching the family together watching which

is the happiest with the emotions they show.

All the children playing and laughing

being the only ones that are wide awake.

Running around in circles making everyone

dizzy while the house starts to shake.

The time has come to gather together

around the present smothered tree,

The children’s eyes all start to swell when

they start to rip presents open so they can see.

The last piece that they look for is the

stuffed and overflowing Christmas stocking,

Going thru the top very carefully just to get past

the top placed toys to see if there is anything shocking.

Watching the smiles come when

opening gifts across everyone’s faces

Knowing then this is the right time to be

there as everyone sits in designated places.

There is baked goods all over every table where

everybody is able to take when they want to snack,

Chocolate, candies, and cold cut trays

set at the dinner table way in the back.

All the children start playing and

changing into all of their new gifts,

With all the adults watching in pride as

they watch how everybody’s spirit lifts.

Dressing the children so when they go

outside they will remain very warm,

Toward the toboggan slopes they go

running together where they swarm.

It seems the children reach a higher level

of energy playing in the snow having fun,

Coming back home after being outside all day

becoming rosy cheeked from the cold and the Sun.

Now comes the big family table with everyone

sitting around the table waiting for dinner,

Mother bringing in all of the hot food while Father

starts to carve the Turkey as he is getting thinner.

There is a variety of salads, steamed vegetables,

and mashed potatoes with a side of gravy in a boat,

Turkey with stuffing, baked squash, pumpkin and hot

apple pies which make your taste buds start to float.

Mother starts our prayer for the Blessings we have

received with the meal we were about to partake,

Sending Prayers to all of those that were unfortunate

enough as a meal like this they could not make.

Michael, what a lovely Christmas Poem.  Thank you for letting us read it.  Children just seem to make Christmas what it is supposed to be and when they are not around, always something is missing.  All that is left now is the happy memories of those days when our children were small and my large family would gather at my brother's house.  Everybody brought gifts and food, we had a banquet table setup, the tree was loaded with gifts.  We had so many each year at Thankgiving we would draw names for Christmas gifts and then most would give extra ones.  It was a wonderful time of year and Christmas Eve was celebrated the way it should be, family and friends enjoying each other and forever thankful for the birth of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

Sorry, you just brought back those happy times.
