I teach English in a local country village and travel to and thro, along the windy country roads. I came round one bend and there were two hunters standing in the road, with their guns. I gave them one of my looks to show my disapproval (sorry to anyone who hunts, but I don't like it!). I came round the next bend and coming onto the road from the field in front of me, was a family of deer, papa, mama & enfant. I stopped the car and got out. I looked straight into papa deer's eyes and told him that he shouldn't take his family where I'd just seen the hunters. He stared back at me, looked at his family, started to go forward toward me, then changed his mind, and took his family back the way they had come, as I'd advised him to. It was a beautiful moment. I got back in my car and slowly drove off. All three turned back to look at me and then continued on their way. |
