Hello Pauline and Kaleidoscope Team members
HAPPY ROMANIA DAY Freedom to all people
Very nice of you Pauline to give us the national day of REBULIC OF ROMANIA. Thank you for sharing a these links. There is much information to get and learn from. Ana Maria enjoy the Freedom and Independence. Of course Romania was never occupied from the Ottoman Empire as all the rest of Balkan was, only part of it was. Thank you for sharing Gheorghe Zamfir and his pan flutes. He is a real symbol for ROMANIA. To Our friends I want to give only an explanation. The name ROMANIA may confuse those who are not familiar with world history. In ancient time we had first ROME and Roman Empire having Rome as capital which 325 AD turned to NOVA ROMA having Constantinople as capital, which later turned to the Greek ΡΩΜΑΝΙΑ (Romania) and later when the Ottomans took over renamed it to OTTOMAN EMPIRE. THe Greek word for Rep. ROMANIA is ( ΡΟΥΜΑΜΙΑ) while the Byzantine name is ( ΡΩΜΑΝΙΑ). Also of value to mention is that the Greek independence started in Modern ROMANIA in MoldoBlachia regions where the many Greeks lived during the Ottoman era. Today there are Turk-Altaic languages using the words Roum (Romania) and Romeika and Romanians meaning the Byzantine Empire, the population and the language. As stated above in your posts ROMANIA is a modern name of a geographical region north of Danube in difference with the ancient time which was the geographical region all south of Danube and whole Balkan and Turkey. Happy new week Georgios
