I am happy to accept new friends.

But your invite seems to be an advertisement for your business interest.

Did you really want to become friends or did you just want to send me an ad?

I accept your invite with reservations.

In the furture, you may receive more approvals to your invites by not including an ad in your invitation.

You should use your signature for links to your business or personal web site.

Respectfully,

Hi Jim,

I appreciate your feedback a great deal, however, I do not feel that my invites are ads, not sure how you thought that.

You don't have to be on my list you know ... the truth is  that I am here at Adland to prospect for my business as I'm on a mission to share it with the world. (same mission as Oprah these days).

We seem to have communication issues, you and I ... not sure what that's all about.  Wish we could sort that.

I'm simply making friends, educating people, sharing my knowledge - not sure how this is wrong.

We do business differently, you and I Jim ... I'm very successful at what I do and am enjoying the  process of helping others do the same.

I'm glad to see you are also very successful and think it's GREAT :-)

Lots of room here online for all personality types.

Do let me know if there is anything I can share with you.

Have a great day.

Hello Janet,

My apologies if you felt this was intended for you, but if the shoe fits LOL, just kidding.

I recently received some invites to become friends, from complete strangers and their intent was obviously an advertisement.  I have been guilty of the same, too.

As the invitation to become friends, is exactly what it implies, I personally feel that that is what it should be, in a social networking community.  You see we all have very nice "Profile Pages" provided by the community.  These pages should be utilized and complete as possible.  This I learned from you Janet.  It is called relationship building/marketing something I also learned from you.:-)  See I pay attention.

The only issue you and I have ever had is what we call what we do.  As you know all to well, I have been a commissioned salesperson  for nearly 30 years.  You call it Relationship Marketing and I call it Salesmanship, because nothing happens until the sale is made.

Therefore, even when we are meeting and making new friends we are selling ourselves.  Because if you don't like your salesman, you ain't gonna buy, are you?  My direct sales experience and my income is dependent on the initial greeting and my clients and I find common ground during my 2 hour appointment time in your home.  I am very good at that, but I never get in the door if I lead with my sales pitch.  Simple fact.

Janet, over the years I have learned a lot from you and value our relationship.  I hope this clears up any misunderstanding.

Sincerely,

Jim

Another lesson learned and a great one, thanks Jim.

First, Jim is right ... too many people use the friend's invitation area to advertise their business, I get those all the time.  They put a message in their request that is a full on advertisement, not even so much as a  "hello, my name is...".

Second, another lesson learned in slowing down and paying attention.  I took offense as I honestly thought Jim was personally attacking my requests which are anything but an ad.  Little did I realize this was a forum post ... lesson learned?  Pay attention!  Another case of doing too many things at once.

Thanks Jim for your brilliant leadership!

Your friend,

Janet Legere

Hi Jim, and Janet - Janet, you just received an invite from me to be friends!!  Hope you accept!

This was fun reading, Jim - kept me on the edge of my seat (lol).  I love making new friends here, but always just say hello , and would you please be my friend.  Like you , I get annoyed when I get an invitation that is a 3 page ad.  I love the message you have written to reply to those invitations.  I am going to use it!!

Thanks

Judy
