[Jesus said] "By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I
hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but
him who sent me."
-- John 5:30

THOUGHT:
"So who you tryin' to please, anyway?" These words of my dad
still ring in my ears. His point? There are only two we MUST
please: (1) our Father in heaven, because all praise and honor is
due to him, and (2) ourselves, because we want to know that we've
done the best we could do and been the best we could be. But I
guess I've learned over the years that I can't begin to do the
second of those very well without seeking the first one. Don't you
hope that someday you reach the place where you can join Jesus in
saying with absolute assurance: "I seek not to please myself but
him who sent me!" The closer we approach that reality, the more we
realize that we can't do anything of eternal significance on our
own. Only when we live to honor God do we find the significance and
have the impact that our lives were made to have.

PRAYER:
Almighty and Righteous Father, I know that without you I can do
nothing that is of lasting significance. I have tried my own way
and failed. I have sought my own good and seen my success
short-lived. I want to live now, today and the rest of my life to
please you. As I do this, I am confident that you will provide what
I need and that you will empower me to do what you would have me
do. In Jesus' name I thank you. Amen.

“As God's fellow workers we urge you not to receive God's grace in vain.” (2 Corinthians 6:1, NIV)

Have you ever wanted to quit being a Christian? Or at least just get away from God’s commands for a while? If you have, you’re in good company – Jonah and Jeremiah come quickly to mind.

God gives us grace sufficient for our needs each day, and He gives us that grace every day. In 2 Corinthians 6:1, Paul, in effect, says, don’t waste the grace God has given you. He says don’t receive God’s grace “in vain” – rejecting it in order to nurture frustrations and disappointments.

In The Message, i paraphrase the Corinthian passage by saying we’re to stay at our posts, alert and unswerving, because “our work as God’s servants gets validated — or not — in the details” of our lives.

In other words, the very power of God – the very strength we need, the very testimony we were meant to model – emerges in troubles, hardships, and distresses (2 Cor. 6:4).

Let’s pray together that we stay at our posts in these uncertain times and not waste the grace God has given us.

I just came up with this. I wanted to share with you as well. Thank you! This is what the LORD says to the house of Israel: "Seek me and
live; do not seek Bethel, do not go to Gilgal, do not journey to
Beersheba."
-- Amos 5:4-5

Do you "go to church"? I hope not! Now don't get me wrong; I'm
not advocating you skip worship and fellowship this Sunday! We're
told not to forsake gathering together as believers (Hebrews
10:25). But when we assemble as a body of believers, we're
gathering together for encouragement and meeting with God. We're
not GOING to church; we ARE the church! (The New Testament never
used the word church to refer to a building!) God warned his people
in Old Testament times that simply going to the places of worship
was worthless. Instead, they needed to seek him! I believe that is
exactly what God would have us do. And as we seek him together, we
get to share fellowship, comfort, and encouragement with each
other.

Holy and loving Father, as I face the struggles of this week, it
is comforting to know that I am never away from your love. At the
same time, I love those special moments when I meet with other
Christians and your presence is powerful and real. I know you are
always with us when we gather together, but sometimes my heart or
my circumstance or the situations going on in our church family
derail my awareness of your presence. This week, dear Father, I
pray for our worship assembly to be vibrant and powerful. I pray
for your presence to be closely near. I pray that you will be
honored by what my brothers and sisters and I do to encourage each
other and praise you. Please use this day to draw us near to you.
In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

God_bless you Nick! Thank you for your post my brother...!There seems to be an almost limitless number of "Who's Who" books.
There's one for every state, for colleges and universities, for every
major sport and most of the minor ones. There's one for television,
movies, and the stage. Major professions have their own lists.

And if you are inclined by now to think every specialty on earth has a
"Who's Who," surely you wouldn't be surprised to find that heaven has
one too.

All the earthly "Who's Who" volumes carry a high entrance fee of
achievement. You have to be the fastest or smartest, richest or most
powerful, first to discover or last to abandon. You might get in if you
win enough medals, lose enough pounds, or draw the most beautiful
pictures. Practically all firsts get in, maybe a few seconds, and
practically no others.

The heavenly "Who's Who" has a different criterion for being included.
Oh, none of the pretty, smart, powerful, or first-place people are
necessarily excluded from it. On the other hand -- and this is what is
most important -- people who belong to none of these categories may
also be included.

God's standard of excellence is totally different.

How does someone qualify? Just think of some of the names already on
the list, and identify what they have in common. There are women like
Sarah, Rahab, Deborah, Mary, and Dorcas. There are men like Noah,
Moses, Amos, John the Baptist, and Timothy. You will find kings and
fishermen, farmers and seamstresses, a few the world called
"somebodies" and several it called "nobodies."

A few had their names included for big things they did, and many, many
more for little things. One I recall led forces that defeated a much
larger and better-equipped army. Another only shared his sack lunch
that contained five pieces of bread and two smoked fish.

Figured it out yet? It has nothing to do with greatness in the eyes of
the world, for God's standard of excellence is totally different. In
the words of T.W. Matson, "In the kingdom of God, service is not the
path to greatness. It is greatness."

Jesus said it very simply: "The greatest among you will be your
servant" (Matthew 23:11 TNIV). Heaven's "Who's Who" lists servants --
only servants.
