Thanks for this forum, Thomas, I have enjoyed seeing all the bird pictures and reading the posts. Good thing Mary is watching over your shoulder, Bill you wicked thing! Is that kinda like the Alabama State bird - Yellow Hammer (actually, the yellow shafted flicker). My older brother and I had quite a discussion about birds and their names. I will post in here somewhere. He was quite a bit older than me and he learned his birds by listening to the old folks, probably before they were named in books. The bluejay was always called a jaybird and cardinal, simply a redbird. This is interesting because my husband and I both have our bird books and still enjoy naming them when we see one.
