I know what you mean.  My 12 year old has a computer, but I do not let him hook up to the internet.. he just has cd's and games that he plays on his.

I had let him on mine a couple of times, before he got his own... but he would find his way to chat rooms.. when I found out the 1st time, and told him not to do it again, he did anyway.. 

Now that he has his own, naturally he has been begging to get online with it.. but I can't trust him..  Kids just don't realize how dangerous it can be..

As far as the heat.. yes it is awful.. the schools will not even let the kids out at recess time.. so ofcourse they complain about that..

But yes, I hate to really "plan" things much ahead of time anymore, because it seems every time we plan something, something else comes up.. so most of our activites are spur of the moment... which the kids love :) ;)
