Dear Pauline and Georgios,
I am so happy that you have honoured the mother country Bharat (i.e. India) on its 60th birthday. Fantastic job with the celebrations!
As a second generation Canadian, I am part of the diaspora. Yet, I keep in touch with the news and increasingly marvel at India's economic and political growth.
On this day, I cannot help but reflect upon the difficult times of the 1947 partition. The end of British rule gave birth to two nations, but at a terrible cost. The inter-communal violence at that time took up to a million lives, making the situation in Iraq today look like a walk in the park...
I am sure that Indians, Pakistanis, and all concerned hope for peaceful coexistance and cooperation in the future. The subcontinent is home to 1.5 billion people, and its ability to grow and prosper will dictate much of the world's direction in the years to come.
Om Shanti, Om Shanti, Om Shanti. Peace and Prosperity to all.
