Dear Luella and John,
Thank you for featuring such a wonderful woman, true woman of courage!
Dearest Janet,
I think, we have a lot in common, as I was raised in so called "socialist camp" also. I understand things you shared with us very well. In USSR, we had to spend a great deal of time in lined to buy even basic things. I remember we had a lot of jokes about our life, it was better to have laugh than desperation, as there was no way to change anything.
Friend of mine went to celebrate 30th anniversary of DDR (East Germany called this way then). When their group entered one of grocery stores, one woman asked whether food was real, as shelves in our grocery stores were empty at this time.
We had a joke that there were two problems in the USSR: 1) To buy food and 2) To lose weight :)
I am happy to know that your dreams came true, you have a great family and wonderful children. You live in wonderful climate. Do you still love bananas? :)
I wish you all the best, you do deserve it!
I am proud to have you as a friend.
God bless you,
Natalya
