Don't know where this came from or who the author is but it inspiried me when I heard it yesterday.
A financially rich man with a large estate possessed many famous
pieces of art and paintings. He had accumulated this wealth by trading
and selling paintings and works of art. In his last months before he died,
his son served in the armed forces but unfortunately sacrificed his
life for his country.
His son's closest comrade had painted a
sketch of his son in commemoration of his friend in battle and sent it
to his father who knew would treasure it.
An estate sale was scheduled of
all these treasures and the all the rich father possessed . The sketch of his son was hung to be sold first in the line
up of all famous works of art.
The auctioneer began the sale
as instructed by starting the auction with the picture of his son. "Give
me ten dollars for the sketch", was the auctioneers first words. The
bidders could be heard to yawn as their subdued impatience was obvious. "Going once, going twice and going three times to the who man in green?" The bidder was the gardener sitting in the back. The
auctioneer took down the picture and revealed the strangest thing
nobody was prepared for. While the auctioneer closed his book, he
showed the back of the sketch was attached the Will of the rich father
of the soldier. It read, "Whoever purchases this picture, possesses the
entire estate."
