Do You Have to be Your Own Boss...?

The Big Lie
Trina L.C. Sonnenberg

I've been online, and making money, for quite some time now. I've downloaded and read so many things that have to do with making money from home; it makes my head spin, just to think about it. The one thing that I have noticed about all of these sure-fire, how-to make your fortune on the Internet, books, and programs, MLMs and the others, is this...

They all say that to be successful, and to have everything you want in life, you MUST be your own boss. That is a lie! It is a lie that was designed to make all those people out there, telling it, filthy rich.

Think about it... All of the recruiters, in MLM type businesses, are recruiting for a company that they do not own. Distributors distribute other peoples' products to earn a commission. How is this being your own boss? Someone else signs your commission check.

Promoting affiliate programs is basically the same thing. You are working your tail off, to market someone else's stuff, so they can cut you a check. This is not being your own boss.

If, in either of these examples, the business/company you are promoting, goes under; disappears off the face of the Earth (which we know happens all the time), where's your paycheck?

Don't get me wrong... I'm not bashing MLM, or affiliate programs; all I'm saying is that if you think you are your own boss, because of your involvement with any of them, you're wrong. Someone else is making the lion's share of the money, for the work you do, and you get a commission.

Now, here's the good news... You do not have to be your own boss to be successful, or to be able to work from home. I know this because I am successful, I work from home, and I have an employer.

There are plenty of jobs to be found, online, if you know where to look. (eg: Monster.com) Many companies are looking to outsource work to those who are able to telecommute, via the Internet, or Intranet.

Anyone can use the Internet to brush up on their skills, or learn new ones, and find a regular job, which allows them to work from home. Anyone can turn a passion into success. You do not have to join a program, company, or have your own product... be your own boss, as they say, to find success and freedom, working from home. Learn a new skill and go get a job. You will probably find it easier and more satisfying than selling soap, software, or ebooks, for someone else.

I love what I do, and the person who signs my check.

Are you making any money with online surveys? I've not heard of any success stories related to that type of program. Actually, I had someone steal my credit card number, and use it to sign up for free trials connected with online surveys. (Not fun to deal with.)

What is your passion? Are you a skiier? I've found that the best way to succeed in anything is to follow your passion. It is always easier to promote something that you feel personally connected to in some way, especially if there is interest in that area.

I try to steer away from promoting the latest-greatest gadget or program, and stick to things I know and feel are worth someone else's time or money. If you see no value in it, others are likely to feel the same, but when you personally feel there is value, it is much easier to find others who will too.

I hope I answered your question.

Thanx for stopping by.

Hi Trina,

I think you have a point, if you are in a mainstream MLM, and you are really deep in the mix I would say it's a safe bet to say you have a boss.

On the other hand the statement of "be your own boss" just is saying that it's great to own your own business. Nothing wrong with that right? I don't think that means that something is fraudulent.

What do you think of the download e books/software programs sold for high prices, and you have the resale rights? It seems that there are many of these out there thriving. Sometimes I am amazed that there are so many.

It seems that what makes one a good one is level of support and the quality of the sizzle given on the website. The products seem to vary in quality and I am not sure if that is always a reflection of the price.

I do think they reach a price point where the Product and resale rights are probably not worth the amount they are bing sold for. On the other hand in stores and at mainstream on line computer stores I have seen similar down loadable software packs for about $35.00 ea. I am not sure they are any better in quality.

I'm just bringing this business type up to get your opinion. It's a model that is working for some. It's a true "Be your own boss" I think.

Thanks
