Unfortunately, junk mail is a fact of life, so if your account doesn't hold enough mail, gmail might be what you need for most of your online activity.  It will give you more than ample space for all the junk, plus, it gives you a lot of control over what goes in your inbox and what goes straight to junk mail.

You've made some good points, here.

One thing I've found doesn't work very well is replying to spammers.  What I do is set up an autoresponse on my accounts, so that everyone who sends me an email gets it.  That way, those who I DO know get a return message quickly letting them know I'm away, but will look at their email, and those who are spamming me with a real address get a bit of an ad from me.

I don't recommend sending strictly an ad.  Include an ad, but sending a full page ad, no matter how brilliant, could actually land you defending yourself against a spam complaint (it can be a cruel world!)

Replying with an offer can, indeed, be considered spam.  I know it's not fair, but that's the way this crazy world works.  They didn't ask for it.
