REPENTANCE by: Thomas Richmond (D.O.C.)

1. Who needs repentance? A. Luke 13:1-5  1) Everyone must repent. 2) There are no degrees of sinners. 3) Alternative to repentance is perishing. B. Acts 26:20-21  1) Repentance= chang of heart/mind. It is a decision. 2) Repentance literally means "to turn around." (Go a differant direction.) 3) Repentance is a possitive command- change to become what we were created to be- like Jesus! 4) Repentance is followed by deeds- your life reflects the chance. 5) Can be done in an instant, though effects last a lifetime. 6) Preaching the biblical message of repentance leads to opposition. ( Some do not want to change. Many do not appretiate being told the truth about their life.) 2. 2 Corinthians 7:8-11  A. Worldly sorrow and godly sorrow. Examples: Speeding: The Officer pulls you over. Worldly sorrow. You're sorry you got caught. Good chance you will speed again. Godly sorrow: You're sorry that you have broken the law, endangered lives, etc. In both cases you are sorry, but repentance (change in lifestyle) comes only with godly sorrow. Pregnancy: Your girlfriend gets pregnant. Worldly sorrow: sorry about the consequences. Start to use contraceptives. May have an abortion. Godly sorrow: Will never be immoral again. B. Godly sorrow produces a visable change in one's characher and lifestyle. Therefore you can tell whether or not someone has repented. C. 1 Peter 2:22-25  1) Godly sorrow-understands that our sin hurts God (put Jesus on the cross). 2) If in love with God- will not want to hurt him- will not want to sin (sin/dog analogy). 3) returning to let God direct our lives- thats repentance.

Hello father Thomas,

I am a sinner and i do need repentance, Forgive me father for i have sinned,I have sinned by thoughts of how bad some folk are,I have sinned by allowing my self to get caught up in others sins by how there bad hearts have become. I have sinned by allowing myself to judge others as bad when they are attatcking me.

Father I have sinned by giving into satan when I know he is working in the hearts of others who I continually want to call and say bad people.

Father show me the light show me how to work better in others hearts. to make them see that your way father is better then satans way.

Please father help me to continue trying to soften my heart so I may serve you better lord!!!!

Amen-

Hi Thomas
I'm sorry for so many things - I just need to get this off my chest; I am sorry that I struggle with forgiveness - I know I should just let things go but I do struggle.  I am sorry that I am not a better mother or wife, I am sorry that I don't seem to be able to get myself together to move forward from a bad working situation.. I could go on but I am sick of being a 'poor little me'.
I want to change my heart and turn around.  I find it so hard to let go of the past, uncomfortable as it was, it is what I know.  I love the Lord, I am so grateful for Jesus's love and sacrifice but I find it so difficult to accept his love in return.
Pray for me?

Dear Sue, you have a humble heart just by responding like you did, you may feel that God doesnt forgive you right now but I am here to tell you that you or anyone else who feels the same way, that God Loves each one of you, he knows what your all about, dont you know your kids?? sometimes it is hard to recognize this even in teenage years, he has Faith in you, he always has. He wants you to succeed. Be proud of the steps your trying to commit to and be gracious and forgiving for yourself about it, when you do that God does the rest, let him work. Thats what hes there for. Why me? I ask, then i say Why Not me?  Keep the Faith Sue. I'm here for you too. God_bless
