STEP 3 ... Choosing objects to Decoupage
If you are new to Decoupage it is a good idea to choose something small and flat to start with such as place mats or coasters. As you proceed you will learn to master the most important step ... gluing. When you have gained experience you can then venture on to more difficult projects. Many interesting objects can be bought at flea markets, craft stalls, or second-hand shops. You may even have a supply of stuff you would normally class as junk sitting in your attic which can be transformed with this beautiful art. Old pieces of furniture, tin buckets, old plant pots, boxes, trunks, antique milk containers, wooden boxes, divider screens, the list is endless. There are also many sources for new objects at craft shops. Wood boards cut into fancy shapes for signs, door crowns, also lovely boxes are only a few of the items available. Some hobby ceramic shops sell bisque ware ... vases, pedestals or plant pots with simple shapes that have flat sides are good for beginners. Rounded shapes are better left till you have more experience.
