According to Roman mythology, cupid was the god of erotic love. In modern art, cupid is often times portrayed as a nude, winged boy. Legend has it, he searches out paired couples while armed with a bow and a quiver of arrows, or sometimes, two quivers of arrows:
one set gold tipped to inspire love, and the other set lead -tipped to inspire hate.
He is often depicted as playful, if not fickle.
