Hi my baby girl!
It looks like you have another winner here! I am sure that many will post a
good story that will motivate others to overcome obstacles in their way and
reach for their dreams.
During the 90’s I was
fortunate to have a customer named Walter and during the six years before he passed we shared our morning
coffee at his kitchen table before I would service his heating and air
conditioning systems at his home. Walter was known by many often times would
speak of his life during our coffee. On one such occasion he spoke of his
childhood and how he and his brother were raised by his mother. She had a hard
time of it and they moved quite often as she couldn’t make the rent on their
$25.00 per month apartment and were thrown to the streets of New York. It was a harsh world that Walter
learned the lessons of life in.
Walter John Matthow
overcame his childhood and as a young man served in the US Army Air corps as a radioman and gunner on a B-24
Liberator in England
during World War II. He served in the same bombing group as JimmyStewart. Life
was a challenge for many during the war. On the front lines our soldiers
liberated much of Europe from Hitler as well as stopping the Japanese
aggression in the Pacific Rim. Yes the hard
times and challenges were many during those years. Many lives were lost during
the war. We lost 407,000 of our troops, Hitler lost 5,500,000 of his Nazi’s,
and Japan
lost 2,000,000 troops. The world as a whole lost 24,500,000 troops and over
32,000,000 civilians before the war ended. Really puts Iraq into
perspective I’d say.
As you can see Walter did
have a few obstacles and missteps to overcome in his life. On his return from
the European theatre he took up acting and Walter Matthau the son of a poor and
single mother was one of the most successful actors of our time. I was blessed
to have met Walter and will cherish the many discussions we had before his
death. WYSWYG will sum up the differences between the man at home and the man
on the screen for you see acting was just an extension of the man “Walter
Matthau”.
You’re Hubby,
Rick
