DON’T LET WORRY KILL YOU

The following are reported to be actual announcements taken from various church bulletins. They have been around for a while, but they're still enjoyable:

* Thursday night -- potluck supper. Prayer and medication to follow.

* For those of you who have children and don't know it, we have a nursery downstairs.

* This afternoon there will be a meeting in the south and north ends of the church. Children will be baptized at both ends.

* Weight Watchers will meet at 7 PM at the First xxx Church. Please use large double door at the side entrance.

* Eight new choir robes are currently needed, due to the addition of several new members and to the deterioration of some older ones.

* Scouts are saving aluminum cans, bottles, and other items to be recycled. Proceeds will be used to cripple children.

* A bean supper will be held on Tuesday evening in the church hall. Music will follow.

* The third verse of Blessed Assurance will be sung without musical accomplishment.

* During the absence of our preacher, we enjoyed the rare privilege of hearing a good sermon when A. B. Doe supplied our pulpit.

* Low Self-Esteem Support Group will meet Thursday at 7 to 8:30 p.m. Please use the back door.

* Preacher is on vacation. Massages can be given to church secretary.

* The eighth-graders will be presenting Shakespeare's Hamlet in the church basement on Friday at 7 p.m. The congregation is invited to attend this tragedy.

* Church Rummage Sale: A good opportunity to get rid of anything not worth keeping but too good to throw away. Bring your husband.

* The outreach committee has enlisted 25 members to make calls on people who are not afflicted with any church.

* Don't let worry kill you. Let the church help.

If you’ve ever written for, or edited a Church bulletin then you know mistakes can happen. We can choose to worry ourselves into illness or laugh at ourselves and move on. This is true with publications of all types. I see many item descriptions of items for sale with glaring errors. I’ll venture to say many of the items sold anyway.

God tells us in His word that worry will not improve our lot one bit.

"Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?" (Matthew 6:25-26,28-30)

A gentle reminder from our heavenly Father that He is watching out for us will go a long way in buffering our concern about all that seems to be going wrong in our lives. May this message help someone be reminded this very day of that fact.

Don't Worry, be happy and share it.

Good morning all of you in the Woods community!

The Bible says, "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving" (Colossians 3:23–24). God wants your heart to beat only for him. The ultimate contribution God has for you to make aligns with the passions he has given you for his kingdom. Identifying your passions reveals another aspect of the masterpiece God is creating in your life.

Our hearts reflect our dreams and desires. The key is to learn how to unlock the potential within our hearts so that they can beat fully for God. {From Zondervan Everyday}

So many people I know have much more to contribute to this world than they have ever imagined. What a difference they could make if they would "unlock" all those gifts God has given them and uses them to the fullest. Most unused gifts are a result of people not even recognizing that the gift is there to begin with. More often than not we haven't tried to see what our gift is. After failure in only one area we may fall prey to the thought that we have no gift at all. What a mistake we make! Everyone and I mean everyone has a gift. Don't stop looking until you find it. After you find it, give it away and watch it keep coming back to you in larger quantities than the original gift. When this life is over it should be said about each of us that we held nothing back. We used up everything good gift that we've been blessed with.

Have a blessed day,

Mike

Good morning everyone!

“The stars exist that we might know how high our dreams can soar.”
Unknown

“The smallest diamond is worth more than the largest pebble; the lowest degree of grace excels the loftiest attainment of nature.” Charles H. Spurgeon

“The serene beauty of a holy life is the most powerful influence in the world next to the power of God.” Blaise Pascal

See how high you can soar alone. Then try again with the “wind” assistance of others and that of God. Accept the free gift of grace then seek the holy life that such grace should motivate us to attain.

Brighten someone’s day today and you will feel so much better.

LOVE IS

“If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.” {I Corinthians 13:1-3}

The word L.O.V.E. is probably uttered more often in February than in any other month of the year. Over the years I’ve heard many people try to define the word. No other word I can think of has been defined in so many different ways.

What does it mean to you? True love shouldn’t just slip off the tongue without a deep, sincere feeling. It is another of many words that are misused more times than not. I sincerely feel that love should be thought out carefully before use. Read the “fine print” of the depth and effect the word has. If ever there was a word that fits the oft spoken guide to life; “actions speak louder than words” love is at the top of the list.

Our text today begins what is generally referred to as “The Love Chapter” of the bible. We will discuss other verses of the chapter this week. Meanwhile, give much thought to what you want to accomplish by uttering the words “I love you.”

God so loved you and me that He gave His Son to die for us. {John 3:16}

Prepare your heart to love someone today!

Love is patient, love is kind {and} is not jealous; love does not brag {and} is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong {suffered,} does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. {1 Corinthians 13:4-7, NASB}

Let the keyboard of my heart be touched by the Master's hand.

I LOVE YOU! There, I've said it! Now that you have gotten back into your chair, consider that the use of the word L.O.V.E. carries many connotations. It is used to say "I love the springtime." One might also say, "I love that movie." Some people without children will say, "I love children." On February 14th every year it is said by persons with deep, intimate feelings for someone of the opposite sex.

Love is expressed on many levels. God even told us to "love" our enemies. He did not mean for us to care enough about them that we condone their actions or that we might want to enter into a lifelong relationship with them. We are commanded to love other people just as the Father loved us. Simply put, we are to love others in a way that we have their best interests at heart. For our enemies that may mean that we want them to change and become more like little children from God. For our pets, it certainly means that we want them safe from the elements outside.

For those of us fortunate enough to have a caring spouse, we have a love completely on another level. We are to love them and put their interests even above our own.

As for God, He first loved us. We are to love Him beyond any love we have for anyone or anything upon this earth. If we put God at the top of our “love list” then all these other loves will come much easier.

Make a loving day,

Mike
