From Jean Marie: A request....
Date:11/30/2006
Hi Kathy, it's JeanMarie here!
Rob Walker recommended that I contact you for some help in "spreading the word". I am fairly new to ALP (joined this fall) and my computer skills are somewhat limited (I think Rob has had some serious laughs over my lack of internet knowledge).
Let me tell you a bit about myself. By profession, I am a Human Resource Director in the Senior Healthcare Industry, and as such, I not only work @ 50-60 hours/week, but I am also on call 24/7 (this does not leave me a lot of time to be online, since I am up to train for the walk daily at 4:30am). I am a firm believer in one giving something back to humankind, and in that regard, annually, I walk in the Breast Cancer 3-Day. This is a 60 mile walk over the course of 3 days, and each walker must raise a minimum of $2200.00 in donations, which benefits the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and the National Philanthropic Trust, funding crucial breast cancer research, treatment, eductaion and screening. On my #-day website, there is a list of the survivors and of those that lost the battle whom I walk in their honor. Two of the women listed were members of my family (my grandmother and my cousin). This past October 11th, I had a lumpectomy (fortunately, my pathology report was very positive, the mass was encapsulated & contained, and surrounding tissue was benign). On October 15th (2 days post-op), with some strict guidelines from my surgeon - I walked the 2006 Breast Cancer 3-Day & completed all 60 miles (to the amazement of family, friends & my surgeon). And now I am fundraising for the 2007 3-Day Walk.
So, enough of the biography, and on to my request for some assistance. I see by your profile that you have thousands of friends here at ALP. Would you kindly consider introducing my cause, the Breast Cancer 3-Day & me to them? If some of them made a small, $5.00 tax deductible donation (the cost of a cup of coffee at a gourmet coffe shop), it would be a great way to give the gift of HOPE this holiday season.
Donations can be made at my 3-Day website at:
http://www.the3day.org/tampabay07/jbordenaycock
Also, if anyone has a loved one battling breast cancer, or surviving this disease, or a special someone who lost their fight, I would be honored to add their name to my "walking for" placard. They can simple e-mail me their loved one's name at:
3daywalker@cfl.rr.com
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this lengthy e-mail, and for your consideration. My hope is that one day the millions of mothers, daughters, sisters, grandmothers, and even the few men who are diagnosed each and every year will all be survivors. With the help of friends, we will, one day, find the cure!
Forever grateful,
JeanMarie
