Re: STARBUCKS DENIES COFFEE TO MARINES

Hello Kathy,

I do not drink Starbucks or even tasted their coffe but glad to that I came in
later in this forum to read that this was all a hoax, and the misunderstanding
that started it all has been cleared up.

Neil, I find your post to a couple of the members in this forum quite offensive.
And especially when you have opted to use Capital fonts which is known as
shouting to call them ignorant and stupid..This forum is a public post and should
be treated as such that other people are going to be reading this.  Please be
respectful.

You seem to have forgotten, we all have the freedom of speech and choice.  I completely understand their stand whereby War is a necessary fight, yet we do not have to like it.

The Government and many business companies make meager bucks (millions and millions of dollars ) from war - they have even sold armaments and amunition to our enemies so they can use them against us. - This is not right.

I am patriotic whereby my late father served in the first world war, three of his
sons from his first marriage (my half brothers) served in the second world war and two of those sons were caught and placed in Prison camps for the duration
of the war.
My family fought for our freedom with England and Australia, America came in
when Pearl Harbour was bombed.. His youngest son from his first family served
in the Korean war.

Kind regards

Starbucks/Marines rumor

There is more to this story than this, as Paul Harvey would say, and here's the rest of the story http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/s/starbucks-iraq.htm

THIS IS FACT!

CALL ON STARBUCKS TO GIVE ETHIOPIAN FARMERS THEIR FAIR SHARE!
Posted: 10-27-2006 08:55 PM
Each year, coffee companies rake in profit by the billions. Last year alone, Starbucks earned $5.8 billion in net revenues.

Yet, for every cup of coffee Starbucks sells ($1.80 for a venti), poor farmers in coffee-growing countries like Ethiopia make about three cents. Call on Starbucks to give farmers their fair share of coffee profits>>

Cheap overseas labor and production is nothing new for large corporations. But Starbucks claims to be different. Their website states: "Starbucks strongly believes in the importance of building mutually-beneficial relationships with coffee farmers and coffee communities with which we work."

In reality, Starbucks rakes in premium profits that Ethiopian brand names command, while the farmers providing their supply have been left behind in poverty.

With as many as 15 million Ethiopians dependent on coffee revenues, the Ethiopian government has asked Starbucks to sign a licensing agreement that will give Ethiopia trademark control over the names on its coffee. This will allow Ethiopia to determine an export price that ensures a larger share of profits for farmers, enabling them to feed their children, send them to school and pay for better healthcare.

Ask Starbucks to sign the agreement giving Ethiopia trademark control over its coffee, ensuring farmers get their fair share of coffee profits. Go to: http://go.care2.com/e/lz5I/zqC/TrDc

Thanks for making a difference today.

Now as far as the war....

I would not want to live in fear for mine or my family and friends life every second of every day!

Or to be treated as so many have been and are still being treated!

What's wrong with a hard working person being able to eat, have clothes on their familys backs and a home to live in?

Thanks,

 Jerilyn

Re: STARBUCKS DENIES COFFEE TO MARINES

I heard on the news last week that coffee drinkers have a lower chance of diabetes..... My opinion: Starbucks really isn't that tasty when you consider you can fresh grind and brew your own cup for a tenth of the price. To me it tastes better. After a cup at home, I put the rest in a thermos and, driving right past Starbucks, I take it to work with me! While "false pretenses" may be why we are in Iraq/Afghanistan there still is certainly a war going on beyond the boundaries of those countries. Regardless of Neil's ranting, I do believe it is possible to support the troops and disagree with our purpose in the war or to disagree with war itself. The people we elected before the war decided on war and therefore it is our obligation to support the armed forces on one hand and deal with our elected reps on the other. Very much two separate issues. Try this link...I found it interesting: http://www.obsessionthemovie.com/12min.htm I've been a member of Adland for a few years now and the posting of hoaxes is not what I would consider "rampant". However, there are a few that let it get out of hand and I don't believe Kathy is one of those people. Simple mistake, easy to take back:-) Y'all take care and have a cup of java! Tim
