Hi Venerina,
This thread is a most intriguing to read, so many different concepts about love. Being a G-dly person and using the bible as my gage for life. I am told in words how to love but words are only concepts . words have no feelings words can only explain . The concept of love is best explain in a verse that says love your enemies. For me that is love when you can love someone who has hurt you or used you . This for me is the true walk of love.
I see love on many different levels. We have love of self. which encompasses self respect and dignity. self worth
There is love for ones spouse this is the kind of love a man and woman shares. There are more than one meaning and usage of the word love in the Greek.
Agape is one yes word meaning love ,its Greek meaning is to love in a moral sense in a affection or benevolent manner, but than there is also many other usages of the word love and its meaning for times sake I will not give you my lesson is biblical Greek. The Greek word phileo comes to mind when I think about friends it referred to being a friend or to have fondness for someone or thing. There are 14 Greek words explaining love .. and still the concept is only being explained in words on paper. We can spend hours reading about love and still have no understanding of what it is or how it works or how to do it . I have learned to love though examples and though actions of others.
For me love is an action. Not a feeling. We do have feelings that convey love yes, but it's not all feelings. Love is a commitment or a vow. Love is kind and gentle, but love can also sometimes have to be tough and bring discipline and chastisement. I love my children, but it would not be loving of me to not show them how to respect and honour each other as human beings though discipline.
There is a love in one's heart and than there is a love one feels in the head. Both are love each different in their meanings. For example, my head may say, I love greasy friend chicken and gravy , but in my heart I know its not good for my body. lol Ok, bad example, but I am sure you understand what I mean here.
For me love is a choice of the actions we take or make each and everyday with family, friends, spouses and all of mankind. We choose to love or not to love. It is our G-d given free will that allows this freedom of choice to love or not to love.
Blessings,
Geketa
