Hi Joseph,
I understand - I was once a door-to-door salesman.
Once I had quite an amusing experience. Everyone in the little village I was in warned me about one particular dog. However, dogs and I tend to get along quite well, as I've been around dogs all my life.
Anyway, I went to the house, met and began talking to the dog who started out being very agressive, but by the time the owner came out to frantically warn me about the dog, it was lying on its back, whimpering!
His reaction was, "What did you do to my dog?"
As the dog crawled up to me and began licking my hand, I said, "Just talked." Which is all I did. Dogs will naturally, in 99% of the cases, submit to a human who shows no fear and who demonstrates calmness and authority.
God bless,
Dave
