Well, as most of you already know, I also host two communities - Busybee Safelist Community Forums and Towerhits Forums (just started)
Porn and the like is, of course, not allowed on my sites, but there are those FINKS who ignore the rules and post their junk, anyway.
Now, I've tried a few different approaches to deal with it, but I can't monitor the site 24/7, so I needed a plan , a counterattack, if you will.
What is interesting about most forum software is that you can create a list of banned words. They do not have to be individual words, but can also be strings of any length. When banning a word or string, an alternate word or phrase needs to be chosen to replace it. Here's where I get to have fun!
Now, if you visit one of my sites and see a sentence like, "I am a lowdown, rotten skunk," or "I'm a real idiot," it is most likely a replacement line for a porn spammer.
As I continue to work on this (it's more fun than a barrel of monkeys!), there will likely be some very unusual and hopefully hilarious posts showing up from time to time, which will add to the amusement of visitors, and make it really easy for me to find and delete them!
It's an old and dusty saying, but most appropriate and one of my favourites: "When life tosses you a lemon, make lemonade!"
