Dear Kathleen,
I am so happy you like this masterpiece. To me it was a discovery as well.
Van Gogh's live was one of perpetual suffering. He was never happy with anything. He was a tortured soul. The only time he fell in love with a woman he was so cruelly dissapointed that he would never recover from it. He was dismissed by his own Church religious authorities on account of his trying to live a totally Christian life in his youth. Out of the more than eight hundred paintings he made, he would only sell one! He had every reason to live a disorderly life. I have read lots of articles and entire books about his life and works, and if any, it is his misfortunes that have made me love him all the more intensely.
Thank you,
Luis Miguel Goitizolo
