Thank you for this information Nick. As a society, we need to get to the root of the problem as to why our kids need to escape from reality. One could actually write a book on this subject.
We live in such a fast paced world that we adults are having a hard time keeping up with it. Engrossed in our own concerns and stresses, too many of our adolescents and teens are left to themselves. Sometimes out of sheer exhaustion, we are just too tired to keep up with them.
We tend to look at our teenagers as smart mouthed rebellious kids. What we don't realize is that these kids are hurting and alone. As parents, we must keep those communication lines open, always. Actually, this should start from their first day of life and never stop. Our kids have their own sets of problems and they are very important to them. We should take these problems seriously and although we should not solve their problems for them, we should be there for guidance and support. How many times do we have no idea what our child is going through emotionally. Keep an eye on your kid. Know what he/she is doing.
The suicide rate is the highest ever for teens. This is a time of life when one should be carefree, happy, and allowed to be just a child. Because of today's lifestyle they are forced into the real world too soon. Peer pressure is the worst it ever has been.
We all need to slow down, smell the roses and concentrate on what is really important.
Kindest regards,
