Yep Cairns is about as far away from Perth as you can get and still be in Oz.

They will be near "Crocodile Hunter" territory. Wasn't that sad? (Steve Irwin, I mean. That guy had a heart of gold.)

Welcome back! Sounds like you are really enjoying your new surroundings.
The yellow birds may be finches. We have a lot around here. Easy to look up different species online.
One thing I have found that attract a lot of butterflies and hummingbirds are the "Butterfly bush" or the less expensive "Lantana" or Verbena. You should check into them. They come back every year and are beautiful!

Ditto to all the we missed you posts. Definitely can relate-my living room is being used for storage right now, quite charming.
I love that you have so many lovely creatures surrounding you, I've got a flying squirrel but cant really claim him.
