Google's multi- billion dollar enterprise begin with two graduate students at Stanford University.
Soon after meeting in 1995, Larry Page and Sergey Brin collaborated on ways to make sense out of the rapidly expanding World Wide Web. Their first search engine,
Back Rub, introduced the pair's unique approach:
1) to build a super speedy network with lots of low- end computers instead of a few expensive ones, and
2) to rank the quality of Web pages according to what other Web sites were linked to them.
This dorm room born technology gained enough attention to lure investors. While the Google.com domain was registered on September 15, 1997, Google Inc. opened its "door"- complete with a remote control in Septemember 1998 when founders rented a friends garage for office space.

Google.com's simple, uncluttered design loads on computers quickly, so users get a faster search even before they begin looking.
Now one of the planets five most popular Web sites, Google is also a verb, a background checker, and a second brain.
